About your new role Our Casualty teams provide a full, expert service in defending public (PL) and employers' liability (EL) claims, across the private and public sectors, as well as handling travel-related claims. Weightmans' team is renowned for defendant litigation services in these and other specialist Casualty areas. We operate nationally with dedicated commercial insurance and public sector teams. Working in a team dedicated to some of our biggest insurer clients, you will be responsible, under appropriate supervision, for managing your own varied caseload on a day-to-day basis. You will also assist Partners and other team members with a wide range of claims on behalf of various corporate bodies and their insurers. Tasks include managing both pre-litigated and litigated casualty claims, such as international travel claims, handling Pre-Action Disclosure applications, Stage 3 hearings, Infant Approvals, preparing witness statements, conducting legal and factual research, drafting instructions to Counsel and experts, preparing reports to clients, attending court hearings, participating in client meetings, and responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone inquiries from clients and other parties. This list is not exhaustive; you will be expected to perform other duties within the wider scope of the role. About You You should have previous experience and a genuine interest in the relevant work area. Additionally, we require you to have: Experience managing a caseload of non-litigated and litigated claims, including EL, PL, and Travel claims. Ability to control Case Manager diaries and action lists. Willingness to attend court hearings as appropriate. Skill in drafting various documents such as letters and reports. Commitment to client care standards in line with guidelines, directions, and SLAs. Ability to complete Client and firm MI procedures. Capability to meet financial and chargeable targets. Knowledge of relevant rules, policies, and procedures. Ability to stay updated with legal developments. Alignment with Weightmans’ values. Adherence to Data Protection Procedures. Good communication skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Strong time management and organizational skills. Proficiency in IT skills. Furthermore, you should have: A proven track record in managing EL/PL personal injury claims, with a good understanding of property damage and negligence law. In-depth knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules. Experience in drafting legal documents including witness statements, instructions, and reports. Experience managing cases efficiently and cost-effectively. Ability to analyze information critically. Excellent communication and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
