UGO bus Coordinator Permanent, Full Time £26,357 to £31,008 per annum Location: Basildon Closing Date: 8th June 2025 To read more about our business area, please visit: Climate, Environment and Customer Services The Opportunity Ugobus is the County Council's in-house transport fleet, mainly used to provide passenger transport for Adult Social Care clients to Essex Cares Ltd centres, and children to Special Educational Needs, mainstream schools, and local bus routes. The thriving team provides a lifeline to access social and welfare facilities for some of the most vulnerable Essex residents. The Ugobus Coordinator will manage all day-to-day aspects of delivering a quality transport service, ensuring staff and vehicle resources meet customer transport requirements and service objectives, including excellent customer service and supporting access to employment, education, and care opportunities. This person will oversee their team of drivers across an operational area, ensuring adherence to all health and safety and legislative requirements under which Ugobus operates. Accountabilities Ensure all work complies with legislative requirements (e.g., drivers' hours, Section 19/22 licensing). Manage a team of 30-40 drivers/passenger assistants, ensuring adherence to GDPR and HR policies. Maintain accurate records of operational data and risk assessments. Ensure drivers/passenger assistants follow health and safety and legal procedures, taking corrective action when necessary. Ensure compliance with the Highway Code and uphold a professional, exemplary standard of behavior. Provide comprehensive training and refresher courses for drivers/passenger assistants, supporting ongoing development and a culture of continuous improvement. Support managers in route planning and resource allocation to optimize efficiency and costs. Meet specific targets and objectives as defined annually within the performance management framework. Provide cover for colleagues during leave and sickness. The Experience You Will Bring Educated to A level / NVQ level 4 or equivalent by experience. Evidence of ongoing professional development; Passenger Transport Operations Manager (level 4) is desirable. Experience in vehicle/fleet and people management. Strong leadership skills in managing diverse staff and stakeholders. Proven experience managing a large team, including HR issues such as onboarding, disciplinary actions, and dispute resolution. Skills in route planning and resource allocation in compliance with legislation. Ability to remain calm and effective in rapidly changing operational situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong IT skills, with a focus on digital solutions and continuous improvement.
