Duty Officer Salary and grade: £32, 367 per year, Grade 4 Duration of role: Permanent Hours per week: 37 Location: The Beacon, Wantage Closing date: 20th June 2025 About the role and what we’re looking for This is an exciting opportunity for a customer-focused and enthusiastic front of house professional with strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills to help ensure The Beacon remains a welcoming and well-run community venue at the heart of Wantage. When on duty during performances, classes, private hires, cinema screenings, or general opening hours, the Duty Officer is responsible for the full front of house operation. This includes coordinating casual staff and volunteers, supporting visiting performers and hirers, and overseeing public access to ensure the smooth, safe, and customer-friendly delivery of our services. The Duty Officer will also act as the responsible person for the building during their shift, ensuring the safety and security of The Beacon, its users, and its resources, and responding to any incidents or operational issues as they arise. The Beacon runs events throughout the year, including evenings and weekends. The role requires flexibility and a willingness to work unsociable hours, including during the festive season. About you Your essential skills, knowledge and experience • Experience of supervising staff. • Strong organisational skills • Excellent customer service skills • Aptitude for short and long term logistical planning and a keen eye for detail. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Great interpersonal and communication skills and strong people management skills Your essential qualifications • 3 ‘A’ levels or equivalent. • A degree would be desirable but is not essential. • First aid in the workplace is desirable If you have the following experience or qualifications – it’s a bonus • Enthusiasm and love for community arts • High level of interest in The Beacon and its activities • Previous experience in buildings/facilities management • Previous experience in administering conference hires The benefits we offer • A basic 25 days annual leave per annum, rising to 30 days after five years.
