The engage worker will work with young people who have been arrested and detained in the Police Station to support them at the “teachable and reachable moment” and provide an opportunity and space to reflect and plan changes in their life.Project Engage is a tri-borough initiatives between Barnet, Brent and Harrow in coordination with Metropolitan Police and is funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) via Violence Reduction Unit.Project Engage is part of Family Services, Children’s Safeguarding directorate and located within the Youth Justice Service, whose aims is to reduce serious youth violence and ensure appropriate and targeted response via local interventions and provisions to divert them from offending or prevent them from becoming victims of crime or exploitation.The Engage Youth Workers will be stationed in custody suites (Colindale and Wembley) to provide outreach youth support to children and young people who have been arrested. Our primary objective is to establish trusted relationship, offer a voluntary intervention that helps these young people avoid future involvement with the Youth Justice System. This is a full time, 12-month fixed, term post and you will be part of the formal shift pattern (Early Day 8:00am-16:00pm and Early Night 12:00pm-20:00pm/ Shifts will be discussed in your interview)As an Engage worker, you will be directly responsible for your caseload of young people, which includes;Seeing young people at custody and in the community. Completing and sharing detailed logs to the appropriate professionals in a timely manner. Ensuring referrals and plans are completed, ensuring each case has a high level of recording on our internal systems. Attend and present at Engage Panels, ( to support case management and direction) Supporting the Engage team in networking and sourcing community organisation to be utilised by young people and the YJS.Pleaseclick hereto download the Job description for this role.About YouThe Engage worker should be able to evidence;Good personal time management and self-motivation, Strong evidence and ability to conduct and record administrative tasks, Evidence a positive ability to build professional relationships with young people, Maintain positive working relationships with other professionals over Barnet, Brent, Harrow, the MET staff and the wider community. Have good knowledge of at least one of the tri-borough area’sEngage encourage applicants who have a background in Education, Youth justice, Turnaround, Early intervention roles, or who have evidence of strong understanding of safeguarding and case management procedures.Barnet Youth Justice Service is following a holistic and resilience-based model of practice and there is an expectation that Engage Youth Worker can evidence sound risk assessment skills and safeguarding knowledge.Barnet Youth Justice Service has developed a strong ethos around, child-first principle and multi-agency practice, and this will require you to be a keen team player who has the ability to work effectively in partnership with other agencies, to improve the life chances of young people in Barnet, Brent and Harrow.A key component of the job role is experience of working within the context of the Youth Justice Board’s National Standards and good practice models, which underpin core youth justice practice.
