Job Title: Project Manager – Fire Safety Remedial WorksLocation: Manchester (Hybrid working available)Employment Type: 1-Year permanent contract initiallyClient: A leading Environmental and Engineering ConsultancyAbout the RoleOur client, a well-established environmental and engineering consultancy, is looking for a Project Manager with specialist knowledge in fire safety remedial works. The successful candidate will play a critical role in interpreting fire door and compartmentation survey reports and converting them into clear, costed, and compliant remedial work packages. This is a key technical role that combines specification writing, cost management, and project delivery to help clients meet safety and compliance standards.Key ResponsibilitiesReview and interpret fire door and compartmentation survey reports to identify remedial work requirements.Develop clear, technically robust specifications and scopes of work in line with fire safety standards and building regulations.Produce cost plans, schedules of rates, and tender documentation.Manage the procurement and oversight of remedial contractors, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.Monitor project timelines, costs, and quality benchmarks across multiple remedial workstreams.Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.Liaise with fire engineers, surveyors, clients, and contractors to ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.Maintain accurate records, change controls, and project documentation for audit and compliance purposes.Qualifications & EducationEssential:Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Project Management, or related discipline.Membership (or working towards) of a recognised professional body such as RICS or CIOB.DIPFD – Diploma in Fire Door Inspection.FSIDIP – Fire Stopping Inspection Diploma.Desirable:Certifications or training in fire safety, passive fire protection, or building fire compliance.Technical Knowledge & ExperienceEssential:Proven experience with fire door and compartmentation surveys and translating findings into remedial works.Strong understanding of passive fire protection principles and relevant British Standards (e.g., BS 9999, BS 476, BS EN 1634).Skilled in developing specifications for remedial works, including materials, installation methods, and testing protocols.Demonstrable experience managing construction or remedial projects through to completion.Excellent quantity surveying skills – cost estimating, budgeting, tendering, and contract administration.Familiarity with JCT and NEC contracts.Up-to-date knowledge of UK building regulations, Approved Document B, and health & safety compliance requirements.Desirable:Experience with public sector or regulated environments (e.g., healthcare, education, housing).Working knowledge of fire-rated products and third-party certified systems.Experience managing multiple remedial projects simultaneously across live operational sites.Skills & CompetenciesExcellent analytical skills and attention to technical detail.Ability to produce clear and unambiguous specifications and reports.Confident communicator with stakeholders at all levels – both technical and non-technical.Strong negotiation and influencing skills when working with contractors and suppliers.Effective time management and prioritisation skills in a multi-project environment.Proficiency in MS Office, project planning tools (e.g. MS Project), and QS software (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX).What’s on OfferCompetitive salary dependent on experience.Hybrid working (2–3 days in the Manchester office/site visits).Pension scheme and employee benefits package.Ongoing CPD and training opportunities.Opportunity to work with a growing team on high-impact, compliance-critical projects across the UK.Contact: Elvis Eckardt
