This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in NEC contracts and a background in the power and energy sector, particularly within overhead lines and substation projects.You’ll be working on a nationally significant infrastructure programme aimed at modernising and future-proofing a key part of the UK’s electricity network. The scheme includes the proposed construction and upgrade of three major substations, along with associated overhead line enhancements, as part of a broader transformation of the UK’s power infrastructure.What You’ll Be DoingActing as the commercial lead on a high-profile energy infrastructure projectManaging NEC contracts, including Option CCost planning, forecasting, and risk management throughout the project lifecycleWorking closely with project managers, client teams, engineers, and contractorsSupporting procurement strategy, contract administration, and variation managementProviding clear, structured commercial reporting and recommendationsEnsuring strong commercial governance and best practice across all activityAbout the ProjectYou’ll play a key role on a nationally important power infrastructure scheme that will enhance energy flow between the North and Midlands. The project will see the delivery of three new substations and the upgrade of overhead lines—designed to boost network capacity and enable future grid connections.The role is primarily hybrid, based out of our Manchester office, with some travel to Birmingham—and later to the project site near Sheffield—as activity on the ground ramps up from 2026.What We’re Looking For✅ Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on large infrastructure or energy projects✅ Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (essential)✅ Experience in power transmission, substations, or overhead line projects (preferred)✅ A confident communicator who can work independently and collaboratively✅ Ability to balance commercial precision with a practical, delivery-focused mindsetWhy Walker Sime?We offer the best of both worlds: the warmth and flexibility of an SME, combined with the backing of an international group.
