Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of HR to lead the HR function for our clients site based near Exeter. Reporting directly to the Managing Director with a matrix link to the Divisional HR Director, you will play a key role in aligning local people strategies with broader divisional and Group priorities. With a headcount of approximately 170 and one direct report, you will be both a strategic partner and a hands-on HR generalist, championing best practice across the entire employee lifecycle.This is a pivotal opportunity for an HR leader who thrives in a manufacturing or engineering environment and is motivated by shaping culture, enabling leadership effectiveness, and embedding change that supports organisational performance.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as a trusted partner to the Managing Director and site leadership team to deliver the people strategyProvide high-quality advice and guidance to managers on all aspects of HR including organisational design, employee relations, performance, and workforce planningDevelop and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, retention, and satisfactionLead organisational development initiatives including change management and reorganisationManage complex employee relations cases with a pragmatic, legally compliant approachDesign and deliver core HR processes in conjunction with the Group and Divisional HR TeamDrive initiatives that support an inclusive, values-led cultureSupport leadership in identifying and developing talent pipelines and succession plansEnsure accurate maintenance of HR data and metrics, producing regular reportsCollaborate on health and wellbeing initiatives with Occupational HealthPlay an active role in the HR leadership team, sharing insights and collaborating on divisional and Group-wide initiativesRequirementsProven track record as a senior HR generalist, preferably within a manufacturing or services environmentStrong working knowledge of UK employment law, HR policy, and operational HR deliveryDemonstrable experience working in a matrix organisation with both local and centralised reporting structuresSkilled in coaching, influencing and challenging senior stakeholdersExcellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skillsConfident in analysing HR metrics and workforce data to drive people decisions
