This is an opportunity to use your analytical skills to support environmental cleanup and advance circular economy goals through a new Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for plastic bottles and cans. The scheme aims to reduce waste and promote sustainability across Britain. You will lead data analytics efforts to support the implementation and development of the DRS. Your work will ensure data collected is robust, accurate, and used effectively to assess fraud risk, monitor compliance, and inform policy decisions. By harnessing data, you can help streamline collection, reduce waste, and turn discarded items into valuable resources. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the Environment Agency, Defra, devolved administrations, and industry stakeholders to translate policy into operational systems. Your analysis will help identify patterns, trends, and ensure the scheme functions as intended. You will develop dashboards, reports, and models to support enforcement and monitoring. Your responsibilities include: Collaborating with policy, digital, and regulatory teams to shape the DRS digital infrastructure and ensure data quality. Providing expert analytical insights to inform decision-making across the Agency and government partners. Helping define and improve data governance and reporting standards for the scheme. You will also develop a solid understanding of the DRS regime, with opportunities to explore other producer responsibility regimes. Experience/skills Required In your answers, demonstrate your: Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and cultures, encouraging consideration of diversity issues. Outstanding data and information management skills with strong attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, able to convey data insights clearly and influence outcomes. Ability to build trust and respectful relationships with stakeholders. Desirable experience includes: Using R or Python (or similar) for data analysis.
