This role will complimentthe existing senior perinatal leadership team and together we will lead,manage, support and drive high standards of maternity care. The service has built on the maternity standards of careprovided to our local women, birthing people and their families. We delivercare with a fully established midwifery workforce and a developing midwiferysupport worker team and enthusastic medical collegues. The team work within a perinatal model of care and recentachievements have included launching BSOTs successfully across both acute sites. This is a great opportunity to be supported inyour career development Main duties of the jobThe Deputy Head of Midwifery Roleis key to supporting the operational management of the maternity servicesreporting into the Head of Midwifery and being professionally reportabler tothe Director of Midwifery. The post holder will be anenthusiastic, motived visble professional midwifery leader, supporting the Headof Midwifery, Matrons and Clinical Leads to deliver high standards of clinicalcare. The Deputy Head of Midwifery willsupport, embed and mangage performance targets including the operationaltargets of effective rostering, recruitment and retention, resource managementand the assurance of high standards of clinical care through regular serviceassurance and clinical audit. The Deputy Head of Midwifery willdirect manage the matrons and specialist midwives. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes. This will include ensuring high standardsof midwifery care by being a role model as a senior midwife within the Trust.The Deputy Head of Midwifery will have the oversight of the workforce, with themanagement of the budgets alongside the matrons and ward managers, recruitment andretention and driving a positive culture within the service. The role will ensure serviceimprovements through actively contributing to KPIs/ CQUINS and specific localservice developments. Th Deputy Head ofMidwifery will need a robust working knowledge of the CQC Key lines of Enquireand recommentaions from current National Drivers of Maternity Services,benchmarking local outcomes and processes and then aligning seive improvementto meet the national standards of hight quality maternity care. Good clinical governance and the management of risk is a significantelement of the role in partnership with the Head of Midwifery. The role willsupport the local and corporate patient safety team in the management of standards,monitoring of care, incidents, compliants, clinical audit, national standardsof assurance regarding the maternity incentive scheme (MIS) and saving babieslives (SBLs) and other requirements as they present. Person SpecificationStatutory RegistrationRegistered Midwife with current NMC registration Special RequirementsAble to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post QualificationsEducated to a Degree Level in Midwifery Educated to masters level or of experience Appropriate certified management course Leadership qualification, or a willingness to undertake as soon as reasonably possible Clinical expert in all areas of midwifery practice evidenced by CPD and demonstrated by senior experience within the midwifery profession Application Form & Interview senior experience within the midwifery profession Professional Midwifery Advocate Certified incident investigation training ExperiencePost registration experience at Experience of budget management and roster management Demonstrates leadership and the ability to inspire and In-depth professional knowledge and experience from a range of midwifery Can problem solving including the ability to motivate and and evaluate audit, write detailed reports and evidenced based documents Understanding of regulatory requirements i.e., CQC and NMC Skilled to work in all areas of midwifery as required Ability to debrief patients, relatives, carers and staff during stressful and emotional times or following an incident Deals regularly with adverse outcomes in unexpected situations, having a flexible attitude towards 24 hour cover Participates in on -call rota to ensure midwifery management cover Demonstrates wide knowledge of the public health agenda Expert knowledge and experience of the complexity of service delivery Experience of developing and frameworks to support service delivery and service change.
