Job Description

KMTV is an award-winning independent TV station serving 250,000 households in the county of Kent and available on Freeview, cable andonline . We are part of the local television network and make our own award-winning news, sport, music, business, politics, lifestyle and science programmes. We are on-air for 24-hours a day showing films and entertainment programmes too. KMTV produces national and international programming that appears on major platforms, such asITVX . We have an exciting opportunity for someone to become a qualified video journalist by joining the KMTV news team as asenior apprentice , working on our daily flagship news show,Kent Tonight, our website and social media platforms. Our reporters also create content forKentOnlineand read news bulletins for radio stationkmfm . We are particularly keen to increase diversity in our newsroom and offer opportunities to those who may not have felt able to break into the industry. You will train exclusively alongside other outstanding apprentice journalists for 18 months, including reporters from across the BBC. Once your training is complete, you will gain the National Qualification for Journalists (NQJ), an industry recognised qualification for senior reporters. In return for their enthusiasm and commitment, the right person will join a professional, hard working team making news output and the opportunity to work on other shows too such asThe Kent Politics Show,Invicta Sport&BASSed in Kent.Many ofKMTV’s reportershave gone on to work for organisations such as the BBC, Sky News, CBS and ITV amongst other national and international organisations. Those we invite for an interview will have a combination of essential and desirable skills: KMTV Essentials ● Experience in a professional newsroom ● Educated to graduate level ● Can work 'study both independently and in a team environment ● Excellent communication skills ● A strong desire to work both in front and behind the camera ● Constantly comes up with good ideas for news stories ● Full driving licence KMTV Desirables ● Good working knowledge of TikTok, X, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube ● Experience of Final Cut Pro X or Adobe Premiere ● Good knowledge of the region and where the best news sources can be found Anyone wishing to apply should send a CV and short covering letter to Andy Richards, Channel Director ( ) byFriday 27th June 2025.
