Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £46,735 to £55,755 with potential progression once in post to £62,728 Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to August 2028 This full time, three year, fixed-term Assistant Professor Post is available from 1 September 2025, based in the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology, with a specialism in Latin Language and Literature You will: Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in discipline, normally a higher degree relevant to the teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications in Classical Language and Literature Have sufficient Latin language skills to teach Latin at Beginner and Post-beginner levels Have extensive teaching experience and scholarship within the subject discipline of Latin language and literature Possess proven ability to devise, advise on, and manage learning Have skills in managing, motivating, and mentoring others Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment and outreach Deliver excellent teaching (identified by e.g. peer review) and make an impact at discipline programme level beyond your own teaching Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend CPD relating to this You will join the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology at Birmingham, which is one of the few university departments in the UK that draws together Archaeology and the study of Greece, Rome and Egypt.
