Job Description

The Bedfordshire and Luton Wheelchair Service assesses and provides suitable wheelchairs and associated seating for clients of all ages with long-term conditions which impair their ability to walk. Our dynamic team is looking for an assistant practitioner to work a minimum of 30 hours (part-time over 4 days) or 37.5 hours (full time over 5 days) per week. They would provide technical and clinical support for the Wheelchair Service. The applicant should have experience working within a wheelchair or equipment service, and / or in caring for people with complex disabilities. This is an exciting role that offers clinical client contact and technical skills. The team covers the whole of Bedfordshire and Luton and use of a car is essential. Job responsibilitiesFull Job Description is attached. The role will require the successful candidate to work within a small team, but connects to wider services. They would need to be able to use tools to set and maintain wheelchair and other postural equipment. There are administrative tasks, service processes and a requirement to clinical records. They would hold a case load and be able to work with clients unsupervised. Person SpecificationQualifications and ExperienceGCSE or NVQ level 3 (care or engineering) Working with wheelchairs or disability equipment Working within care, rehab or NHS setting Customer care skills Understands challenges faced by disabled people and their families Experience using hoist and other patient related equipment GeneralAble to drive in own car for work throughout Bedfordshire and Luton, with UK drivers licence. Able to work outdoors, and on the floor.
