Our aim is to reach every family that needs ourhelp and to offer them the very best choice of care. Every year we need toraise £6.7m to keep our doors open and only around 17% of our income comes fromgovernment sources, the rest must be raised through fundraising activity. Ouruncompromisable support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each familyand include overnight care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups,end of life care and home visits. We support familiesfrom a large geographical area, including South Yorkshire, NorthNottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. Job responsibilitiesMain purpose of the job As a Bluebell Wood nursing associate, you will: provideand ensure a high standard of holistic care to babies, children and youngpeople (children) with life limiting/life threatening conditions. create and provide opportunitiesfor children and young people to experience play, social interaction andlearning. deliverchild-focused, family centred palliative and end of lifecare, alongside other members of the interdisciplinary team. To work flexibly betweenthe hospice and community to independently care for children in the mostappropriate setting to their needs. Clinical: Act as an advocate for babies, children and youngpeople, and their families, maintaining professional boundaries. Implement, in conjunction with parents and carers, a plan of care tomeet the identified needs of children in your care. Provide emotional and psychological support to children and their family,adjusting to illness, disability, end of life issues and bereavement. Assist in maintaining and developinghigh standard of care, by awareness of individual needs, following definednursing care plans and working within related policies and procedures. Meetthe nursing needs of children, whilst promoting comfort and well-being,ensuring their personal and social needs are met. Safely undertake procedures to meet the child'snursing needs for which you have attained competence, for example recording andinterpreting vital signs, continence care, bladder and bowel care, pressurearea care, wound care, nutrition, hydration, skin integrity. Deliver complex technical interventionsto support children with complex health needs, such as tracheostomy andventilators, gastrostomy, jejunostomy and suctioning, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or alliedhealthcare professional. Prioritiseand manage own workload, recognising where elements of care can safely bedelegated to other colleagues. Support the delivery of palliative andend of life care both in the hospice and at home. Support opportunities for children and young people building memoriesand experiences. Keep clear, accurate care records, reporting any deterioration, concernsor incidents to the nurse in charge. Provide nursing care and support to childrenboth at home and in the hospice. To safely administer medicinesto children in line with the Bluebell Wood medicines management policy. Maintain confidentiality in all mattersrelating to children and their families. Work as an assistant in therapeuticactivities, group work and life skills with the support and guidance of registeredprofessionals. Education: Maintain and improve your ownprofessional competence by keeping up to date with clinical developments, andby attending in-house and external training sessions. Assist in the education and practical training of colleagues, studentsand trainees. Supervise and orientate learners and new staff. Participate in surveys, audit, research and facilitating clinical trialsas required. Professional requirements: Comply with the requirements for NMCRevalidation, identifying own learning needs and ensuring own professionaldevelopment is maintained by keeping up to date with practicedevelopments. Participate in clinical supervision andappraisals. Successfully complete requiredcompetences as defined by Bluebell Wood.
