As a Service Designer, your primary responsibility will be to provide system design and solution expertise within a defined area of the engineered domain. You'll help ensure system-level performance meets design expectations and is fit for purpose.ROLE REQUIREMENTSEssentialDemonstrate suitable professional qualifications such as CCNA/CCNP/Juniper JNCIA OR provide relevant evidence of experience in designing, delivering, testing and supporting network solutions within military and/or air traffic management domains or equivalent organisations.DesirableAbility to work in a regulated environment, e.g. CAP 670 or Defence Standard 00-972Design, Commissioning & Support of Air Traffic Management equipment meeting applicable standards, or other high integrity systems.Knowledge of Microwave link and/or BLoS technologies.Provision of NOC/SOC services (working within or managing)RESPONSIBILITIESDesignSupport the development of the requirements baseline for new Technical Services.Develop concept designs in accordance with requirements derived from both external and internal customers.Support customer solution reviews and produce design documentation to support those solutions from bid support though to contract award.Support the wider service domains to establish solution proposals and recommendations to meet future requirements.Provide the project teams with technical advice and onsite support where required to deliversolutions through to customer acceptance.Engage with suppliers to develop end to end solutions within the specific functional domainMaintain solution roadmaps within specified domain areas to account for future obsolescenceDeliveryParticipate in the Engineering Lifecycle/Acceptance and Commissioning Process of delivered solutions into service, including the assurance of the fitness for purpose of the deliveries both internally and externally generated.Provide the project teams with technical advice and onsite support where required to deliver solutions through to customer acceptance.ChangeGenerate Engineering submissions for Change Proposals, including formalising the change description, requirements, architectural design and engineering plans.Ensure that the impact of change is assessed, and that agreed change is captured in the requirements baseline of the contract utilising other functions as required.Technical AdviceProvide design/engineering guidance to management on assets within the Technical Service threads.Provide verbal and written support to operators and maintainers on equipment useProvide guidance and management of the integration of 3rd party equipment into Technical Services.SafetySupport the assurance of equipment level safety cases, including hazard analysis.Support safety case reviews and advise the need for additional reviews in response to significant events.Participate as required in the safety investigations managed by internal/external agencies and OEMs with support from Supplier Management.Advise and assist the Technical Service Authority in discharging their safety accountability.Through Life ManagementSupport the engineering authorities in accordance with the following activities:Monitoring of through-life asset performance data (safety, service, and cost) and identifying/interpreting trends/variation outside of design envelopes to enable timely intervention, supporting the Asset manager as appropriate.Identification of mitigation action for equipment technical obsolescence liaising with suppliers on the technical design.Support asset manager in supporting asset base with obsolescence and identification of mitigationReview and update maintenance documentationAssess OEM and modification proposals, through Configuration Control Boards, verifying the impacts of the changes.Assess System and Software update proposals through Configuration Control Boards, verifying the impacts of changes.PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONThe role requires someone with degree in engineering discipline or equivalent relevant professional qualification.Experience, preferably within the Air Traffic Management environment, or similar regulatory/safety environment.Knowledge and personal experience/expertise in at least one of the systems covered by the role.A high degree of commitment and appreciation of designing and supporting operationally critical systems is essential.Able to travel within the UK and by agreement overseas on a limited basis to support implementation of technical solutions.An ability to describe technical problems and information in a manner which can be understood by a non-technical audience.TPBN1_UKTJ
