The role plays a key part in maintaining independently certified quality and safety standards while supporting profitable business growth through collaboration with Commercial Business Units and other internal functions.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Quality AssuranceSupport and champion a strong Food Safety Culture within the Retail Business Unit.Ensure early involvement in new product development to meet customer launch timelines, including:Specification writingArtwork review and approvalNutrition and cooking validationsMicrobiological and shelf-life testingConduct post-launch reviews such as consistency panels and benchmarking.Complete customer specifications and artwork accurately and on time.Engage effectively with customer systems and portals, including questionnaires, KPIs, and audit support.Maintain and contribute to the companys Certificated Management Systems, such as:HACCPInternal auditsCorrective actionsTraceabilityAllergen managementCrisis managementSupplier & Product IntegritySupport and maintain Supplier Approval through document review and desk audits.Provide Technical Management of suppliers to ensure customer standards are met.Monitor high-risk suppliers (based on value, volume, or performance history).Ensure accurate data entry into company documentation and portals.Act as deputy for customer communication in the event of product non-conformance.Investigate and monitor customer complaints and implement improvement actions.Compliance & Ethical StandardsUse ethical trade platforms such as SEDEX and Stronger Together to ensure ethical sourcing.Stay informed of and support compliance with:Sustainability initiatives (e.g., RSPO, MSC, Soy)Animal Welfare standards (e.g., TWA, LR, RTFA)Human Rights policies, including ETI Base Code and Modern Slavery Act.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Timely and complete submission of product documentation for new launches.Prompt and complete responses to post-launch customer queries.Service Level Agreement adherence within the Business Unit.Annual traceability exercises for each Retail Customer.Participation in mock crisis management drills, with implementation of corrective actions.Supplier approval and specification documentation compliance with customer requirements.Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceEssential:Experience in retail technical support or a technical role in food manufacturing/retail supplyIn-depth knowledge of food safety principles (microbiology, allergens, chemistry, foreign bodies)Understanding of HACCP and food safety systemsExperience with BRC Food Safety standardsPreferred:Experience with BRC Agents and Brokers, ISO 9001Familiarity with retail food manufacturing and packaging processes
