Learning Support Assistant / LSA with experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team is required for a well-established Trust based in Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire.The experience expected from applicants, as well as additional skills and qualifications needed for this job are listed below.RECENT GRADUATES CONSIDEREDApplications are welcome from both recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a future career in teaching, as well as those who have an interest in supporting and working with children with special needs.SALARY: 24,027 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary 16,708 per annum + BenefitsLOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, HampshireJOB TYPE: Part-Time, PermanentWORKING HOURS: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.15pm, term time only (39 weeks).START DATE: September 2025JOB OVERVIEWDue to expansion, we have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant / LSA with experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.The role of Learning Support Assistant / LSA is a varied one and you will need to be adaptable and flexible there will be opportunities to work within the whole class, teaching small groups and on a 1:1 basis with individual pupils .As a Learning Support Assistant / LSA you will help to get students involved in the school's social and academic activities, and help them become more independent learners, aiming to boost their achievements.DUTIESYour duties as a Learning Support Assistant / LSA will include:Implement lesson plans, deal with pupil behaviour and make judgements about pupil progress/pupil needs normally in conjunction with the teacherWork with individual or groups of children, assist in ensuring pupils are kept on task and complete activities set by the teachersDeal with behavioural and special needs issues in conjunction with the teacherAssist with testing and assessmentReview progress against learning programmesBe flexible to meet the needs of the school either working 1:1 with an SEN child or providing class supportMaintain confidentiality and hold the trust and confidence of both pupils and teachersWork with children come first attitude, adhering to safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures to maintain the safety and wellbeing of all childrenProvide lunchtime supervision, either in the dining hall or on the playground, organising play activities in the playground or indoors if a wet playtimeAdminister first aid in the case of a minor accident acting on the advice of the registered first-aiderCANDIDATE REQUIREMENTSHave a child-centred approachBe able to create a structure for children with SEND needsHave the ability to work in an Early Years, KS1 or KS2 settingHave the ability to work under pressure and to a fixed timetableHave experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group settingHave the ability to keep pupils motivated and engagedHave a calm but firm approachBe able to adapt and think on your feetBe flexible and willing to learnBe able to attune to a childs emotional needsBe able to work as part of a team, learning with and from other colleaguesBe able to work independently and on your own initiativeHave excellent communication skills, both oral and writtenDemonstrate excellent behaviour management skillsUnderstand confidentiality and safeguarding proceduresBENEFITSFriendly and sociable colleaguesStaff membership rates to the modern Leisure CentreEnrolment in one of the UKs largest public sector pension schemesA tax efficient Cycle-to-Work scheme through salary sacrificeThe organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
