Job Description

Our client is looking for an experienced Director to lead and grow their public affairs and communications offer in the built environment sector. You will be working across accounts including major infrastructure, energy, transport, and housing.You will bring expertise in delivering complex stakeholder and political engagement programmes, spanning local, regional and national levels, to help clients navigate the political, planning and regulatory landscape. Key Responsibilities:Strategic leadership: Lead the development and execution of public affairs, stakeholder engagement, and communications strategies for clients across sectors such as solar energy, rail, large-scale infrastructure, and housebuilding.Client advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to clients at senior levels, shaping strategy, providing political insight, and guiding them through DCO processes, complex consultations and policy challenges.Team leadership & development: Manage and mentor a high-performing team of consultants, supporting their growth and ensuring the highest standards of work.Stakeholder engagement: Leverage strong networks across local authorities, regional bodies, central government, parliament, and the media to support client objectives and build long-term influence.Content oversight: Oversee the production of strategic communications materials including consultation documents, policy submissions, media materials, and thought leadership pieces.Business growth: Identify new business opportunities, contribute to pitches, and play a key role in developing the agency’s offer within the built environment sector.Candidate Requirements:10+ years in public affairs, strategic communications or political consultancy, with a strong track record advising on complex infrastructure or development projects.Demonstrable experience working on DCOs and national infrastructure projects, with a deep understanding of public consultation requirements. Deep understanding of the political, regulatory, and stakeholder landscape across energy, transport, infrastructure and housing sectors. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.Proven ability to lead, inspire and develop high-performing teams.Strong relationships across local, regional and national government and media.A strong networker with a proactive approach and track record of business development.
