SOAS is moving towards a new model of international partnerships which is responsive to the transnational character of our global challenges.[ About the Role]We are looking for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Law for this 1.0 FTE permanent position. The role holder will be expected to convene, teach, and contribute to the strong research profile of the School of Law. In particular, the role holder will have substantive legal knowledge of one or more jurisdictions of Africa and will be expected to co-convene and teach on the compulsory LLB module, Legal Systems of Asia and Africa. It is desirable for the role holder to have interest or expertise in one or more of the following: customary law, law and gender in Africa, development, human rights, and/or areas of growing legal interest, e.g., technology, AI, environmental law or sustainability. The role holder will also be expected to contribute to team-taught modules across the School of Law, to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, and to work in a collegial and collaborative manner with staff across the School.[About the Department]The School of Law at SOAS is a world-leading, research-led department, ranked 1st in the UK 2021 Research Excellence Framework for Research Outputs and 6th Overall.The School of Law is the only one of its kind in the UK–dedicated to legal systems and legal challenges of the developing world, with complementary strengths in human rights, international law and institutions, environmental law and international trade and commerce.
