No day is ever the same, in afast-paced environment, working with a complex caseload, as part of theintegrated care team. Working across theWarrington Borough at community clinics and Warrington Hospital as part of asmall team, you will provide autonomous holistic care, liaising with othercommunity services and social care. The service has awell-established multi-disciplinary diabetes foot clinic to include vascularand orthopaedic consultants, a diabetologist, microbiologists, radiologists,and plaster technicians. Working within the integratedcare teams, the podiatry service plays a key role in maintaining foot healthand keeping people mobile. As apodiatrist within the team, you will be responsible for ensuring excellentpatient care to improve foot health and prevent risks. Flexible working, condensedhours and job share available. Main duties of the jobProviding excellent podiatriccare and holistic assessments, you will look at patients, as a whole ensuringeffective person-centred care. Workingas a team, you will direct to other services to include nursing, the fallsteam, social care and safeguarding where appropriate. As part of the foot protection team, you willfollow NICE guidance to ensure effective care and referrals of those withdiabetes. Having excellent links withvascular consultants in place already, the team is looking to improve thecommunity vascular service. The team are involved in the Northwest Clinicaleffectiveness groups and encourage shared learning, reflective practice, andcontinual professional development. Education to patients andother health care professionals is essential to ensure appropriate and timelyaccess to care to maintain foot health. Job responsibilitiesJob Purpose: The purpose of thispost is to provide high risk foot care by way of specialised podiatric inputboth in clinical and domiciliary settings. Duties and Responsibilities Professional To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, planning,implementation and evaluation of podiatric care to patients with a variety ofmedical and podiatric problems. Maincaseload is predominantly high-risk patients e.g. Diabetes, connective Tissuedisorder, vascular neurological disorder. To deliver specific foot care education and advice to, patients,relatives, and carers. Detailed foot assessment using appropriate diagnostic equipment. Identification of risk factors, categorising patients into specificrisk bands following assessment findings. Referral to other services if required: e.g. further vascularassessment, District nursing, GP. Provision of specific foot care advice to preventdeterioration/maintain /improve foot health. To refer on to other health care professionals when appropriate throughagreed pathways, e.g. referrals to podiatry assistant, hospital diabetes footclinic, biomechanics service. To carry out nail surgery procedures. To have the capability to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitationincluding the drawing up and administration of adrenalin for anaphylacticshock, if required. To manufacture and fit chair side appliances e.g. insoles and siliconedevices, also casting of feet. To follow departmental and Trust policies. To assist in the development andimplementation of procedures and guidelines.To follow clinical guidelines but have the discretion to make ownclinical diagnosis and decisions within professional boundaries whereappropriate. To be responsible for the maintenance, and rotation of clinical stock. Provide wound care management for high risk patients; i.e.swabbing ulcers, antibiotic requests,liaising with other Health Care Professionals, dressing regime. Discharging patients and providing education for self-care redesigns,biomechanics patient leaflets. New patient assessments appointments; referring to N/s biomechanics,holistic, (smoking cessation, falls) Emergency High Risk Clinics To supervise and take an active part in training of students whereappropriate. To maintain Registration with the Health and Care Professional Council(HCPC) To participate in planning and delivery if department in-servicetraining To work with the HCPC code of conduct, Trust policies and proceduresand adhere to the patient charter. Actively participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) todevelop new skills and maintain and update existing skills. To participate in Individual Performance Reviews with the PodiatryManager. To rotate into specialist areas within the department e.g. biomechanicsclinics, autonomously, have own case load to manage, treat and discharge. Communication To provide and ensure understanding of appropriate health education andclinical information to patients and carers. To liaise effectively with colleagues, other Health Care Professionalsand patients, in order to optimise patient care and promote the reputation ofthe department. This may involve: requesting, receiving and sharingdiagnostic tests and results, clinical reports/letters, clinicalarrangements, onward referral and professional advice. To maintain accurate treatment records (paper and/or electronic) of allpatient consultations and related work carried out at each clinical session. Provide statistical information as required, e.g. Contact figures/DNArates. To attend and actively contribute to departmental meetings. To ensure that all information relating to clients and staff gainedthrough employment is kept confidential. Research To participate in audit, data collection, analysis of data anddevelopment of outcomes. To keep updated with relevant evidence-based research. To participate in the Departments Clinical Governance initiatives, thedevelopment of local policies and implementation of local and nationalguidelines. To be involved in departmental research and development. Includingnew/alternative ways of working. E.g. Biomechanics, service redesign,changing appointment structure and discharge policy. Person SpecificationExperienceExperience of a wide range of clinics Experience of clerical work. Skills & AttributesPossess good verbal and written communication skills Ability to perform CPR. Knowledge of System one QualificationsRegistration with Health Professions Council. Podiatry Diploma/Degree. Evidence of CPD portfolio. Evidence of reflective practice. Interest in Health Education.
