Job Title : Assistant Art TechnicianApply below after reading through all the details and supporting information regarding this job opportunity.Salary : 26,500 - 30,000 p.a. + 12.5% pension contribution + other benefitsLocation: Henry Moore Foundation, Much Hadham, HertfordshireJob Type: Full Time - 35 hrs/wk, PermanentThe Henry Moore Foundation, established by one of the greatest sculptors of the twentieth century, presents Moore's work at his former home and studios in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, near Bishop's Stortford, and provides a centre for the study of sculpture at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds.We are seeking an Assistant Art Technician is part of the Collections & Exhibitions department, and works closely with a dedicated team of technical, registrarial and curatorial staff. You will assist the technical and conservation team in the care of the Foundation's collections, predominately sculpture and works on paper, and in the installation of exhibitions in the UK and overseasAbout the roleCare for the collections and maintaining sculptures on display in the grounds, including cleaning and assisting in the maintenance of patinationCondition reporting artworks in all media - from monumental bronzes to carvings to works on paper - and documenting all actions taken in respect of any works in the collection, recording this information in The Museum System (TMS) databasePreparation of sites and outdoor pedestals at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens (HMS&G)Assisting with the movements and installation of outdoor works at HMS&GAssisting in the preparation, and restoration of works for upcoming exhibitionsPreparation of packing crates and materials for shipments of works on loan or for touringOccasional couriering of artworks in the UK and overseasWork as part of the installation team installing exhibitions in the UK and overseasInstallation of works in all media, predominately sculpture and drawingsAssist with the maintenance and installation of outdoor security devices for artworksLiaising and collaborating with external builders when requiredGeneral upkeep of storage areas and ensuring safe working practices and tidiness in all workshop and studio areasManaging the maintenance of tools within the workshop and personal protective equipment (PPE) - which is providedAny other duties that may reasonably be requiredAbout youRequired:An enthusiasm and appreciation for modern sculpture in all its diversityEducated to A Level standard or other equivalent vocational qualification, apprenticeships, or other recognised certificationsDemonstrated willingness to learn and apply new techniques, including participation in relevant training courses or on-the- job experienceComfortable with hands-on, practical work that can involve physical activity, keen to learn safe techniques for handling and moving artworks with care and confidenceValues keeping work areas clean and orderly to support a smooth and safe work environmentAbility to work to deadlines and prioritise workloadCompetent and confident in using a range of hand and power tools safely and effectivelyExcellent attention to visual detailA proactive and adaptable approach, ready to embrace new challenges and adjust to the evolving needs of the roleEnjoys working alongside others in a team/collaborative environmentWillingness to adapt to flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, to support the installation timetables of exhibitionsComfortable engaging with visitors, colleagues, and stakeholders in person whilst representing the Foundation and embracing our core valuesDesired:Background in working or volunteering in a gallery, museum, or other hands-on creative environment - experience with installation or technical tasksHands-on vocational experience working with materials like metal, wood or stone or a similar technical role, or qualification in a related areaA knowledge of the tools, materials, and techniques used in sculptureCompetence in Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word) and knowledge of databasesClosing date for applications: 4th AugustInterviews: 12th August at Perry Green, East Hertfordshire.We encourage and support equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplaces.Please note CVs alone will not be accepted.
