Reporting to the teams Engineering Manager, you will evolve BenchScis Knowledge Graph, integrate public life science data into our biological ontology, iterate on data models in various datastores, including Graph DB, improve internal tooling to allow data self-service, and operationalize production-grade data pipelines. As part of this role, you'll collaborate with a world-class team, experience growth and mentorship, and apply data engineering solutions to shape the future of scientific discovery.Are you ready to apply Make sure you understand all the responsibilities and tasks associated with this role before proceeding.You Will:Scale data pipelines to allow our data to go from research to platform quickly and reliablyManage sources that contain both semi-structured and unstructured biological data that contribute to the evolution of BenchScis Knowledge GraphIntegrate public life science data into the biological ontology in our Knowledge GraphCollaborate with ML, Data engineers, and Science to solve complex data mining and extraction challenges, enabling us to capture and model scientific experiments and resultsSeek out leadership opportunities and act as a Technical DRI (directly responsible individual) on multiple projects/epicsDesign testable, scalable solutions to complex problems using the latest frameworks and toolsUse your experience and knowledge to help define and apply best practices for a broad platform of technologies in a cloud-based environmentWrite and review engineering design proposals in accordance with BenchScis engineer best practicesContribute to your teams processes including sprint planning, task estimation, and code reviewWork both independently and in pair-programming settings within an agile team of talented engineers to solve interesting data problemsBe given an unmatched opportunity for growth, and to learn from a team of outstanding engineersLiaise closely with stakeholders from other functions including product and scienceFeel challenged and engaged as you're exposed to new opportunities to require you to push yourselfYou Have:Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar area5+ years of experience working as a professional software engineer, data in industryExpertise with Python coding and type systemExpertise in writing SQL (GQL, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery are a plus)Experience with building both batch and streaming ETL pipelines using data processing enginesDeep understanding of building Knowledge Graphs entailing biological ontologies, and leveraging graph DBs for their storageExperience with cloud development (we use GCP and Terraform) including reference architectures and developing specialized stacks on cloud servicesA strong background in data modeling, data structures, and large-scale data manipulation/transformationsA can-do proactive and assertive attitude - your manager believes in freedom and responsibility and helping you own what you do; you will excel best if this environment suits youYou have experience working in cross-functional teams with product managers, scientists, project managers, and engineers from other disciplines (e.g., machine learning)Outstanding verbal and written communication skillsCan clearly explain complex technical concepts/systems to engineering peers and non-engineering stakeholders across teamsExperience executing as part of high-performance engineering teams using industry-standard software delivery practicesProficient with agile processes (sprint planning, estimation, retros, standups, etc.)Ideally, you have worked in the scientific/biological domain with scientists on your teamA growth mindset continuously seeking to stay up-to-date with cutting-edge advances in tech and software/data engineeringBenefits and Perks:A great compensation package that includes BenchSci equity optionsA robust vacation policy plus an additional vacation day every yearCompany closures for 14 more days throughout the yearFlex time for sick days, personal days, and religious holidaysComprehensive health and dental benefits.Annual learning & development budgetA one-time home office set-up budget to use upon joining BenchSciAn annual lifestyle spending account allowanceGenerous parental leave benefits with a top-up plan or paid time off optionsThe ability to save for your retirement coupled with a company match!About BenchSci:BenchSci's mission is to exponentially increase the speed and quality of life-saving research and development.
