Weare looking to recruit a Health Care Assistant to work in both our Acute Medical and Short Stay Units at Barnsley Hospital. Weare looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and flexible person with excellentorganisational skills to join our team. The main focus of this role it toprovide high quality care and compassion whilst maintaining patient safety toall of our patients. Thepostholder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering a rangeof designated tasks/duties of a clinical and non- clinical nature includingpersonal compassionate care to patients, working within agreed policy andprocedures. Thepost holder will undertake assessment and recording of basic patient clinicalobservations/test results as part of the overall assessment of a patient. Thepost holder will work under the supervision of the NMC Registrant at all times,who holds delegated accountability for the work designated. Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the role include: Working under the direct supervision of the RegisteredNurse/Midwife, knowing what is expected of you, not working outside of yourrole, following reasonable requests and instructions within your work which mayinclude chaperone of patients, transfer of goods and equipment betweendepartments. Following locally agreed competency based tasks supported bytraining and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge to undertake: Basic clinical observations i.e. heart rate Blood glucose recordings Urinalysis testing Lying and standing blood pressure monitoring 25-point skin check Bladder scanning Venepuncture Cannulation Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring The above generic list of competency-based clinical taskswill be tailored to what you specifically need to carry out the health careassistant role on your particular ward/department and this will be recordedwithin your individual competencies file. This is to ensure you have beentrained, assessed and signed competent to meet the standards required toundertake the clinical tasks needed that are relevant to your area. There willalso need to be sufficient opportunity for you to undertake the tasks on yourparticular ward/department for you to be able to maintain your competence.
