Location:Workington (West Cumbria House)Contract:PermanentMain duties of the job About this opportunityAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated social worker to join our friendly and supportive team based in North Cumbria as an Enhanced Social Work Practitioner.We are a social work team working with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. We also work with young people transitioning from Children's Services to adulthood.The successful applicant will be a qualified and experienced social worker, expected to work autonomously, develop effective approaches in managing complex cases, and promote a strength-based approach.You will supervise team members, promote professional development, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.Cumberland Council is a modern and supportive employer with technology and a commitment to flexible working. Be part of the transformation!Job responsibilities PurposeTo work as a highly capable practitioner assessing and managing complex, high-risk cases within a locality or district team. To recommend person-centred support and outcomes for individuals in Cumbria with social care needs, and advise on developing and implementing care/support programs for individuals, groups, and communities. The role involves significant autonomy, managing complex cases, and making decisions based on best practices, risk management, and empowerment approaches. The practitioner will have specialist knowledge, exercise sound judgment, and offer innovative, solution-focused approaches, using reablement to maximize individual potential. Knowledge of other agencies and resources within the district is essential, as is supervising others and working effectively with partners.Person Specification QualificationsAccredited professional qualification in Health, Social Care, or related area, registered with the appropriate bodyApproved Full Post Qualifying Award (Advanced Award in Social Work/OT/Masters)OR significant experience at a similar post-qualification levelTeacher/Student assessor or relevant experience in supervising studentsOngoing professional development/CPD evidenceSpecialist knowledge and experience in the area of workExperience in change management, within time scales and budgetsLeadership skills and experienceAbility to make sound judgments and decisions in unpredictable situationsExperience supervising othersKnowledge of relevant legislation and policiesIn-depth knowledge of the working areaSpecialism through qualifications or extensive experienceExperience in supervision practices and policiesAbility to influence and make difficult decisionsInterpersonal skills including negotiation, management, and motivationAbility to develop innovative, person-centred solutionsLeadership in creating empowering culturesPlanning interventions for complex, high-risk casesDelivering services at a specialist levelProviding multi-faceted interventionsAMHP Level 2 Safeguarding Investigator / Intervention trainingExperience with project managementAwareness of services beyond own professional boundariesExperience in delivering training and adviceDisclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
