Vascular Lab is an integral part of the Birmingham Vascular Centre, one of the biggest vascular units in the UK. You will join a highly experienced team working across the hospitals in Birmingham. We are equipped with dedicated vascular laboratories and modern ultrasound machines. The laboratory offers one stop out-patient services alongside the Medical staff as well as dedicated surveillance lists and support for in-patients. You will be expected to perform a wide range of vascular investigations, including carotid, arterial and venous duplex scans, graft surveillance scans and imaging of EVARs. You must have good communication skills and be proficient in liaising with a number of different staff groups. Together with other members of the team you would be responsible for participating in routine services, training activities and research. Applications are also welcomed from final year STP students or individuals training towards the SVT accreditation and may be considered on Band 7 Annex 21, with progression onto the substantive post upon HCPC registration or SVT AVS accreditation. Main duties of the jobTo work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a high quality specialist non-invasive vascular diagnostic assessment service. The services it provides are integral to clinical decision-making in a number of key areas including vascular surgery, stroke and cardiology in University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which involves cross-site working. The vascular diagnostic service at UHB sits within the Department of Vascular Surgery in the Trust, providing specialist clinical and technical services to investigate circulation disorders, primarily using ultrasound techniques. To analyse requests from clinicians and select appropriate tests and prioritize them according to clinical need and resources available, independently performing, interpreting and issuing written reports on the full required range of patient studies. The post holder will work at an advanced level promoting best practice, giving expert advice, support and guidance to junior staff and the multidisciplinary team as well as providing clinical supervision to trainee vascular scientists. Person SpecificationQualifications* Clinical Scientist --Vascular (STP graduate and HCPC registered) or SVT accredited vascular scientist or equivalent Experience* Experience in performing full range of Vascular Ultrasound Investigations * Thorough knowledge of Vascular Anatomy, Physiology and Pathological conditions * Thorough knowledge of Physics of sound, ultrasound instrumentation, haemodynamics and Doppler principles and ultrasound application * Current SVT guidelines and protocols applying to vascular investigations * Good working knowledge of all areas of Clinical Governance, including quality, audit and risk management * In-depth understanding of patient procedures and practices e.g. confidentiality, consent, clinical governance * Knowledge of research methodologies and participation in research and audit Disclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
