Theopportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and caring team players to join ourexpanding friendly CT Team. The successful candidates will work withincross-sectional imaging (CT Scan), helping qualified radiographer to delivera quality service to patients from all over the region. TheCT service is delivered across 3 sites: Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), StJamess and the Community Diagnostic Centre at Seacroft Hospital (SCH). Thepost-holder(s) may be required to work at any site within Leeds TeachingHospital. Previouscannulation experience is preferable; however, candidates who meet the otherminimum essential criteria (qualifications) will be considered and will besupported through a training program. Expected ShortlistingDate 11/08/2025 Planned InterviewDate 25/08/2025 Main duties of the jobDutieswill include cannulating patients intravenously prior to imaging andassisting patients to complete their pre- examination safety sheets. Dutieswill also include assisting staff with interventional procedures such asbiopsies and injections and adhering to aseptic techniques. Other dutiesinclude positioning patients for examinations, general cleaning, maintenanceand care of equipment (including basic fault finding), trouble shooting andreporting of faults, stock control, clerical duties and data input onto theRadiology Information System (RIS). The post holder will work to departmentalprotocols and schemes of work. Patientsare received from multiple sources and presentation ranges from theunconscious to the fully mobile with uncooperative, incapacitated,anaesthetised, partially resuscitated, disorientated patients and those withspecial needs, physical and mental disabilities. Some patients exhibitantisocial or threatening behaviour. Thepost-holder may occasionally be required to work at any site within LeedsTeaching Hospital Trusts Radiology departments. Job responsibilitiesJobTitle: Senior RadiologyAssistant Band:3 Department:Radiology LocationLeeds Teaching Hospitals AfCJob No: 3321 JOBPURPOSE/SUMMARY TheRadiology Service delivers a diagnostic and treatment service forapproximately 600,000 patients a year on 6 sites. The Service comprisesseveral imaging modalities, each with up to 100 staff, providing a highquality clinical radiology service for patients. Thejob holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing ahigh-quality radiology service, carrying out policies and procedures asspecified by the Trust and Radiology Management Team. They will undertake awide range of duties to clinically support of theSonographers/Radiographers/MTOs and Radiologists and be primarily responsiblefor the care of patients requiring imaging. PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY ClinicalResponsibilities: Escorting patients in and out ofthe examination rooms. Helping patients on and off theexamination table. Assess communication needs ofpatients. To anticipate where communicationdifficulties might make completion of the modality checklist impossible andto implement alternative. methods to ensure that patient safety ismaintained. Communicate effectively andempathetically with patients and their carers. Assisting with moving and handlingof those patients who are immobile in a manner that is safe for all concernedand following manual handling guidelines. Reassuring and staying inattendance with patients requiring additional support. When necessary, attending to thepatients personal hygiene requirements. Explaining the undressing/dressingrequirements to patients and where necessary assisting the patient. Understand the role of a chaperoneand chaperone patients when required. Providing and communicating aftercare following invasive procedures. Assisting patients with after carefollowing interventional procedures. General help and assistance to theRadiographer/Sonographer/Clinical Technologist/ Radiologist throughout thepatients examination, either in the department or on the wards. To ensure appropriate infectioncontrol measures are utilised where necessary, paying particular attention topersonal protection as well as the management of equipment and linenscontaminated by bodily fluids. Initiate emergency procedures andassist with basic life support. Ensure safe handling of medicinesat all times. Assist patients in completing anysafety forms required as part of their examination. Following completion of safetyforms, evaluate the information provided to determine if the examination issafe to proceed. Escalate if necessary. Undertake venous cannulation. To assess routine requests forimaging so that patient position and selection of appropriate table equipmentis used to optimise image quality of the body part under examination. Todefer to the radiographer for complex examinations requiring adaptation ofstandard technique. To physically position the patientfor a range of routine examinations, to ensure that image quality, patientcomfort and patient safety are maintained at all times whilst taking intoaccount patient limitations. To defer to the radiographer for complex examinationsrequiring adaptation of standard technique. To prepare drugs/contrast media forintravenous and oral administration and to load automatic drug injection pump- following appropriate training. When working in MRI, be sensitiveto patient anxiety regarding the claustrophobic nature of the MRI scanner andto be able to help patients overcome their anxiety so that the examinationcan be performed. Administrativeduties: To include registering the patient,updating patient records, bookings, extraction of work lists and all otherassociated RIS activities. To enter accurate patient andexamination data into Radiology Information System. Maintain accurate records at alltimes. Understand the contingenciesrequired when electronic systems fail. Liaise with other departments/wardswithin and outside LTHT to ensure a quality service for patients andclinicians. Monitor stock, operate stockcontrol and order medical equipment, accessories, consumables, linen andpharmacy and order as required. Dealing with telephone messages inan efficient manner. Report any adverse incidents to theappropriate line manager in line with the Trust and radiology risk managementsystem. Equipmentduties: Basic operation of the specialisedequipment following appropriate training. Wear personal protective equipmentwhen required. Care for, check and maintain highstandards of cleanliness of clinical equipment to minimise spread ofinfection. Prepare trolleys and conductaseptic technique whilst assisting with interventional/biopsy procedures. Maintaining high standards ofcleanliness in examination rooms to minimise spread of infection. Ensure safe disposal of linen andclinical waste from the department. As part of the radiology teamensure all equipment is maintained to a high standard and used appropriately. Basic fault finding and reportingand documenting faults. Otherduties: To assist in promoting the overallaims of the department. To participate in departmentorganisation and workload planning offering proposals to change departmentprocedures. To assist in the training of othermembers of staff. To assist qualified staff in theevaluation of resources to develop high standards of patient care and achievevalue for money initiatives. Participate in the individualperformance review system. Undertake hand hygiene audits. To be responsible for own mandatorytraining and ensure it is up to date To attend departmental meetingswhen required. To be aware of and comply with allstandards of conduct and care related to the Trust in general and theDepartment of Radiology in particular. Develop and maintain an appropriatelevel of knowledge and understanding in the methods of image production. To be aware of the current IonisingRadiation Regulations if working in areas involved with radiation, Employersprocedures and local rules. To be aware of the potentialhazards of strong magnetic fields if working in MRI. Maintain and develop an appropriatelevel of professional knowledge and understanding to enable the safe deliveryof practice. To participate in personaldevelopment needs that may be identified by the team manager or in theappraisal process in an agreed timeframe. Supervise safe work practices ofNHS staff and students in a hazardous environment. To keep accurate and timely recordsof own work and that of other members of the radiology team.
