The Anthro joint venture between Egis and VVB Engineering will provide comprehensive turn-key services for London’s state-of-the-art HS2 gateway station at Old Oak Common. We have been awarded a multi-year contract to deliver MEPHFC (Mechanical, Electrical Public Health, Fire and Communications) systems works.The Design Manager will be based on site in our offices at Elephant & Castle, London for 3 days a week.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated Design Manager to join our Old Oak Common Station project team as part of the Anthro JV (Egis and VVB Engineering).As a Design Manager, you will be a senior member of the team and will be required to support the Associate Director, who leads the MEPHFC team. You will lead and manage Engineers and be responsible for the production and delivery of MEPHFC designs. We are looking for someone who’s dedicated, diligent, and driven, and will take this challenge head on, being an important part of a dynamic team with big ambitions.The ideal candidate will have experience in rail station building services design and coordination.Key Responsibilities:Responsible for providing a clear vision and team direction by leading a high-performing team through the effective management, development and empowerment of staffManage internal and external resources to produce outputs/deliverables in line with contract requirements and client expectationsEstablish and manage Technical Assurance processes, in line with project and client requirements, and rail industry norms and best practiceRetain full control of project programmes, interrogate supply chain programmes and challenge slippage. Work collaboratively to develop and implement mitigation measuresSet and maintain high standards in the production of design deliverables, ensuring information is clear and concise, and risk free. Nurturing a get it right first-time culture within the teamProactively review design documentation to ensure construction risks are mitigated at the design stageManage the engineering team for production of design drawings, calculations, reports, and supporting documentation in accordance with British Standards & Eurocodes, across projects ranging from GRIP 1 to GRIP 5 / RIBA 2 to 5 / ES1-3.Manage the production and coordination of design information in a 3D environment to BIM StandardsManage CDM and CSM-REA requirements and processes, ensuring risks are mitigated As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)Produce and maintain design trackersProduce and issue meeting minutes recording key discussions and agreements.Manage the production, issue and closure of RFI’s and TQ’sLiaise with Project Managers and Commercial Managers to produce and issue project communications e.g. EWN’s and GC’sCoordinate and manage engineering activities so they result in affordable solutions and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and qualityProduce and issue progress reports and dashboardsBe responsible for the consistency of the deliverables across your projectsReview, evaluate and implement rail industry standards to ensure compliance of the engineering deliverables to the standardsPromote sustainable design and developmentPromotion and implementation of digital solutions and innovation across Egis projectsShare knowledge, lessons learned, and innovation across Egis Group technical communities and projectsQualificationsEssential:Degree in Electrical or Mechanical EngineeringMember of an engineering institute and has Engineering Council Professional Registration5-10 years’ experience in Engineering / Technical functions, working in Design Management, with at least 2 years’ experience in the rail industryProven capability in managing design for rail projects, especially in multi-disciplinary environmentsExemplary management skills with the ability to support, mentor and manage a project team of engineers and techniciansExperience of multi-disciplinary design and coordination, and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stagesAbility to find solutions to engineering problemsProven capability in managing design interfaces and integration processesExperience of design assurance requirements & processesAccountable for reviewing and completion of DRN comments for WPP and Design Reviews, Form C/Form G/Form A/B, or equivalentUnderstanding of project scopes, requirements, works information, and excellent commercial awarenessAbility to deliver work to a programme and budgetExcellent leadership skills and mentoring experienceAn ability to train and upskill team membersExpert communication, organisation, and collaboration abilitiesProficient at leading meetings and presenting to clients, stakeholders, colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers etc.Good understanding of MEPHFC systems from a technical, design, installation, buildability, and maintenance perspectiveExcellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilitiesBeing committed to professional development, staying updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in rail design and engineering, integrating them into project designs as appropriateYou must have right to work in the UK.Additional InformationWe are committed to our planetIn each project we design, engineer and operate we care deeply about the legacy we’re leaving behind.
