You’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the team and act as a senior point of contact for both clients and colleagues.In this varied role, you’ll be responsible for supporting your team in delivering accurate, timely payroll services. You’ll also be involved in the operational running of the department, including resource planning, maintaining compliance with payroll legislation, and improving internal procedures. Acting as a senior advisor, you’ll provide technical guidance, manage client escalations, and ensure client relationships are well maintained.What You’ll Be DoingEnsure all payrolls within your remit are processed accurately and in line with agreed timescales.Monitor team performance and assist in supervising workloads to meet deadlines and quality expectations.Keep up to date with evolving payroll legislation and lead the implementation of any required changes.Deliver internal training sessions on technical and procedural updates.Lead on client onboarding projects, covering compliance checks, resource planning and risk oversight.Track team utilisation and department performance, contributing to commercial targets.Maintain accurate process documentation for clients and ensure consistency across the department.Develop a strong understanding of payroll systems used by the team and liaise with software providers when issues arise.Support the resolution of complex client issues, escalating when necessary to senior management.Encourage best practice within the team and support professional development of junior staff.What We’re Looking ForStrong background in processing and overseeing complex, high-volume payrolls.Previous experience managing a client portfolio and acting as an escalation point.In-depth understanding of payroll legislation and advisory best practices.Ability to manage tight deadlines while maintaining quality and compliance.Proven track record of leading, supporting, and developing teams.Commercial awareness and the ability to contribute to business growth.Excellent communication skills and confidence dealing with clients and stakeholders at all levels.Experience in software oversight and process improvement.Comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.Ready to take your payroll career to the next level?Apply now for this Assistant Payroll Manager to join a collaborative team where you’ll have the chance to lead, innovate and make a real impact.
