Our adult ADHD service is looking for applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to lead our psychological pathway.This is an opportunity to shape psychological pathways for adults with ADHD as part of an overall redesign of the service. The priority for the new service is to offer a biopsychosocial approach for people diagnosed with ADHD, and prioritise psychological and social interventions as part of the Waiting Well offer for people waiting for assessments. The post holder will be responsible for developing and overseeing psychological provision in the service, alongside providing assessment and psychological interventions for people referred to the service.We are keen to invest in the development of new practitioners joining our service to enhance their knowledge, skills, clinical practice, leadership and confidence in working in this area. We are therefore looking for applicants who either have experience in working with people with ADHD or have a good foundation of transferable skills and an interest to develop in this area.We especially welcome applications from candidates with the valuable experience of the diverse social and cultural communities the Trust serves as we are seeking to ensure our psychology staffing has greater diversity and better represents local communities.Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist who is enthusiastic about working with people with ADHD and keen to build up the psychological offer for this group.In this role, you will complete diagnostic assessments for adults, and lead multi-disciplinary diagnostic decision making meetings. You will work closely with colleagues within the MDT as part of the diagnostic assessment pathway and in the post-diagnostic pathway.You will be responsible for the development and implementation of post-diagnostic psychological pathways, which will include group and individual psychological therapy offers. There are exciting opportunities here to develop pathways that meet the psychological needs of adults with ADHD, from a variety of backgrounds. This role would suit someone with an interest in service development and evaluation, and experience of quality improvement.You will be responsible for leading a small team of practitioner psychologists offering assessment and psychological intervention, ensuring safety and quality of their work. Psychological professions staff are able to access a range of trust-wide CPD initiatives.Detailed Job Description And Main ResponsibilitiesTo develop, co-ordinate and ensure the systematic provision of a psychology service to people seeking assessment for ADHD, and those diagnosed with ADHD and personally provide highly specialist clinical input, including assessment of and psychological intervention for ADHD. To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment. To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist in ADHD To ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of other psychologists within the ADHD service, and specifically within the post-diagnostic intervention pathway To undertake service evaluation, audit, research and policy development. To work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters. To agree outcomes/results with clinical/professional lead and to decide how they are best achieved.Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteriaRegistered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC. Additional training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice–based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma. Completed training course in clinical supervision Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional training) that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registrationDesirable criteriaTraining in ADHD assessment toolsExperienceEssential criteriaExperience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in ADHD and/or neurodevelopmental conditions Experience of supervising assistant and trainee psychologists having completed the relevant training Experience of providing teaching and training to psychologists or other professional groups Post-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. Experience of proposing and implementing service development projects within own service areaDesirable criteriaRecord of publications in either peer reviewed, academic or professional journals/booksKnowledgeEssential criteriaHighly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with ADHD Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics Doctoral level knowledge of psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment options for ADHD Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.SkillsEssential criteriaTo deliver psychological therapy across cultural and other differences. To select and administer specialist psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources, on which expert opinion may differ.
