Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit experienced/qualified Coders to join our Clinical Coding Team at the Bedford site. To meet the requirements of a Band 6, you will need to be flexible, a good communicator, able to work as part of a team under tight deadlines, and hold the nationally recognized ACC (Accreditation of Clinical Coders) qualification in clinical coding. Candidates who do not currently meet the Band 6 requirements may be considered for a developmental role at Band 5, provided they have a track record of high-quality coding and a good knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Proficiency in ICD10 and OPCS 4.9 classifications, understanding of coding rules, and application of National Clinical Coding Standards across acute specialties are prerequisites. Excellent communication skills are essential, with the opportunity to progress to Band 6 after acquiring ACC qualification. The Clinical Coding Department is a vital part of the Trust’s IM&T Division, responsible for all management information, reporting, and providing essential data to clinicians and managers for decision-making. The Trust uses electronic documentation management systems such as E.D.R.M.S and Medicode360, enabling remote working. The post holder will provide accurate, timely, and consistent clinical coding services, ensuring quality targets are met and supporting audits as needed. You will be expected to code a variety of specialties to broaden your knowledge and contribute to continuous data quality improvement, staying updated with developments in medical, surgical, and coding disciplines. This role is a key part of the data quality team, aiming to deliver credible, complete, and timely data for the Trust.
