The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the holistic management of long-term conditions and be capable of delivering and overseeing care across pathways such as Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Home Oxygen Assessment and Review, Spirometry, and self-management support. While expertise in all pathways is not essential, a comprehensive understanding of integrated respiratory care is required. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role includes significant leadership, strategic planning, and operational management duties. You will drive service development, lead quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to regional strategic leadership within North Central London. Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and team leadership skills are essential. Collaboration with primary, secondary, and community care is central to this role, supported by a culture of integrated working and continuous learning. The successful candidate will also be responsible for staff education and development, requiring excellent presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Main duties of the jobProvide strategic leadership in the delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of high-quality, safe, effective, and efficient care within the Camden Community COPD and Home Oxygen Service. Collaborate with respiratory clinical leads across sites to advance physiotherapy and nursing services, aligning with local, regional, and national healthcare priorities. Partner with the Head of Long-Term Conditions and senior managers within the organisation and across the sector to shape and influence the development of innovative care models. Drive service innovation by promoting and implementing progressive approaches to respiratory care delivery across multidisciplinary teams. Act as an expert practitioner in holistic respiratory care, specialising in COPD and home oxygen therapy, operating with a high degree of professional autonomy, accountability, and clinical expertise. Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to research activities within the clinical practice and service areas, supporting the organisation’s commitment to excellence and innovation in respiratory care. The team is currently based at St Pancras Hospital but will shortly be moving to Peckwater Centre and operates 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. The post-holder will be required to contribute to a rotating on-call telephone advisory service which runs from 8am - 9am and 5am - 8pm, Monday to Friday. It has a strong culture of integrated working between community, primary and secondary care, established through close communication, weekly MDT’s, joint training and clinical support from Respiratory Consultants at the Royal Free Hospital and UCLH. There is also a strong emphasis on learning in an open and safe environment where staff are empowered to see situations as opportunities to grow and enabled to increase knowledge and skills. Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesClinical Provide advanced respiratory assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with long-term respiratory conditions. Offer expert clinical advice and support across services including Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Home Oxygen Assessment and Review, Spirometry, and self-management clinics. Maintain professional accountability and ensure high standards of care across the service. Contribute to MDT discussions and case reviews, supporting integrated care planning. Promote self-management and patient education strategies to enhance independence and reduce hospital admissions. Leadership & Management Lead the operational delivery of the community respiratory service, including workforce planning, caseload management, and rota coordination. Provide day-to-day line management, clinical supervision, and appraisals for team members. Use complex problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to manage team dynamics and service pressures effectively. Person specificationExperienceSignificant Band 7 level experience of working in respiratory care Leadership and management experience at Band 7 or above Experience of teaching and mentoring of staff across the multidisciplinary team (also student Experience of leading Clinical Governance in clinical area, including risk management, patient experience and audit Previous experience of formal presentations in health care settings Evidence of teaching within multi-professional groups Experience of working in the community Significant Band 7 level experience of working with patients with long-term conditions Training and QualificationsDiploma or Degree in Nursing or Physiotherapy HCPC or NMC Registration. MSc or working towards an MSc. Evidence of Continued Professional Development including recent attendance at relevant post graduate courses (professional and/or condition related) KnowledgeAdvanced specialist knowledge, understanding and application of a patient centred assessment. Knowledge of rehabilitation and symptom management related to chronic lung disease. Knowledge of pathways and COPD, Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Home Oxygen guidance Demonstrate highly specialist knowledge, application and analysis of standardised and non - standardised tests e.g. capillary blood gas, spirometry Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure especially in relation to managing an outpatient caseload and with patients that might express a range of emotions in relation to their condition and symptoms.
