As we continue to grow, we are looking for a skilled and security-focused engineer to join our security team and help ensure the resilience, integrity, and compliance of our infrastructure. Location:London or Reading What does the role involve? As the Security Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and strengthening the security posture of our IT systems. You will be responsible for ensuring timely patching and remediation, managing secure configurations, helping oversee the vulnerability management lifecycle, and demonstrating and promoting security first principles across the organisation. You’ll work closely with teams across the business to maintain secure access control, asset management, and a robust internal IT environment. Main responsibilities: Administer the vulnerability management process from identification through to remediation. Apply system and software patches in line with defined timescales and security best practices. Ensure secure configurations across all systems and infrastructure. Maintain and improve security within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (including Intune, Defender, Entra ID). Support email security and hygiene, including spam filtering, DMARC, SPF, and DKIM. Support asset management, ensuring accurate tracking of hardware and software inventory. Administer access controls and privilege management, enforcing least privilege principles. Maintain secure configuration of Windows and Linux servers. Support and manage firewall configurations and network security policies. Provide status and progress reports. Participate in incident response activities and investigations. Assist with user awareness training and phishing simulations. Stay current with emerging threats and security trends. You will have the following skills and attributes: Experience with vulnerability scanning tools and remediation workflows. Proven experience in a system administration or IT infrastructure/security role. Strong sysadmin skills across both Windows and Linux operating systems. Solid experience working with firewalls and network security tools. In-depth understanding of Microsoft 365 administration and security best practices. Working knowledge of access management, including identity and privilege access control. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with IT asset management principles and tools. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams. Ability to travel between offices occasionally. Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, API). Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials). Understanding of OWASP top 10. Familiarity with CVEs and CVSS scoring. Exposure to cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS). Knowledge of mobile device management (MDM), preferably Microsoft Intune. Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals, or similar. Some familiarity with ethical hacker tools. What is it like to work for IPI?
