Note for Recruitment Agencies:We prefer to hire directly, and we will be in touch with our PSL Agencies if this role is eligible for release.Cumming Group, a Cost and Project Management Consultancy within the construction industry, provides a wide range of services to clients spanning several different sectors.Cumming Group are seeking to recruit a Senior Cost Manager in our Birmingham Office. The Senior Cost Manager will be an integral part of a team that is accountable for the delivery of various Industrial & Logistics projects with one of the largest Industrial & Logistics developers in the UK. Cumming group have a 20+ year relationship with this valued repeat client and a dedicated team delivering multiple schemes at various project stages.The role of a Senior Cost Manager includes the following responsibilities:Provide cost management and employer’s agent services through pre and post contract stagesManage the consultant team from planning and due diligence stages through to tendering, contract award and post-contract employer’s agent roleClose working with Cumming Group directors being a key focal point for each of the clients' representatives, ensuring an exemplary service ensuring client satisfaction and performance of the delivery teamBusiness development input, with a keen interest in the wider I&L market, key players, competitors and targeted growth of sector deliveryTo carry out assigned duties efficiently and in accordance with office Quality Assurance processes and proceduresTake personal responsibility for complying with Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Quality StandardsDevelop relationships with clients, consultants and other supply partnersKey Attributes:The ability to –Support for client bids on prospective new sites and cost benchmarking, providing advice on procurement and delivery strategies related to the location of the development.Preparation of indicative cost budgets and appraisalsPreparation of elemental cost plansAdvising on high-level cost per sq.ft/m2 benchmark metrics with an appreciation of abnormal costsUnderstand the Client’s needs and develop a strategy with the Client to deliver them.Value engineering analysis including commenting on design proposals where affordability could be challenging. Ensuring that little or no change is experienced post contract.Market testing of key elements for the developments with key supply chain partnersData analysis on design efficiencies, benchmark costings, inflation trendsDigital measurement and elemental take-offsEngaging the Construction Market, advising clients on suitable supply chain partners, relative to experience, financial standing and ability to deliver projects.Preparing and issuing tender documentation, including the appreciation of any special conditions specific to the Client's needs.Running tender processes to planned timelines including managing queries from tendering contractors to ensure fully compliant tenders are submitted.Preparation of electronic contract documents including management and completion of warranties.Acting as Employer’s Agent under JCT D&B contractsScrutinising and verifying applications for interim paymentsAssisting project managers in preparing Early Warnings, Instructions and Compensation Events where applicable (NEC contracts)Chairing in-person site progress meetings with clients, contractors and key stakeholdersAdvising and liaising with project design team and internal teamQualifications & Skills:Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar technical disciplineClient facing, ensuring a high standard of deliveryExperience in industrial and logistics projects desirableMRICS preferredStrong experience of JCT Design & Build contractsNEC contract experience desirableAbility to successfully manage complex projects in a proactive and diligent mannerStrong technical delivery experienceStrong cost planning experienceCommercially astuteExperience of providing procurement advice, tender documentation and post contract servicesPreviously employed by a consultancy or end user clientA track record of working with teams and managing projects by prioritising workloads and delivering deadlinesFull clean driving license with attendance at regular monthly site meetings throughout the UKWorking from home is permitted 1 day per week, but this role is a senior position with close management of an office-based team therefore in-person office attendance is important for building relationshipsCumming Management Group is committed to creating a diverse workplace and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
