Assistant Lab Manager London Full-time onsite -x5 days per week Join a mission-driven drug discovery team at the cutting edge of functional genomics.We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Assistant or Deputy Lab Manager to take a hands-on role supporting the daily operations of our brand-new, state-of-the-art functional genomics lab in London. You'll be a core part of a collaborative lab operations team, working closely with scientists to maintain a safe, efficient, and well-equipped laboratory environment.This is an exciting opportunity for someone with prior experience in lab or facility coordination in a drug discovery, academic core, or biotech lab who’s ready to step into a broader operational and leadership support role.What you’ll be doingSupporting the day-to-day running of a busy research lab, ensuring all teams adhere to SOPs and safety practices.Managing stock levels of consumables, chemicals, PPE and overseeing procurement (quoting, ordering, deliveries).Coordinating preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and vendor interactions for key lab equipment.Maintaining accurate inventories of chemicals, reagents, and biological materials.Supporting lab-wide housekeeping and ensuring cold storage and bench space is well organised.Keeping safety documentation up to date (Lab Manual, COSHH, risk assessments).Delivering health & safety inductions and drills; acting as a Fire Marshal and First Aider.Liaising with facilities teams and contractors for building-related needs and emergency response support.Ensuring the availability and upkeep of core lab facilities (e.g., wash stations, spill kits).What you bringA degree (or equivalent) in life sciences or a related discipline.At least 1–2 years of lab operations experience in a research or industry setting (biotech, pharma, or academic core).Solid understanding of lab operations: inventory, H&S protocols, procurement, and maintenance coordination.Comfortable working in BSL1/BSL2 environments and familiar with COSHH and HSE compliance.Excellent organisational and time management skills; confident using basic digital tools (MS Office, inventory systems).Bonus experience (not essential)Exposure to molecular biology techniques or cell culture.Prior involvement in lab expansion, commissioning, or setting up systems and processes.
