Dueto the progression of previous post holders and maternity leave, we haveexciting opportunities for ambitious, self-motivated and committed PharmacyTechnicians who are registered with the GPhC or due to register within 6months to join the Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services team at theLeeds Teaching Hospitals supporting the ward support service. Pleasenote the roles currently advertised include 2 substantive posts and 1secondment/fixed term post. By applying you will be applying for all 3 posts. Youwill work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team who make a realdifference to patient care. By taking a patient first approach you will focuson helping patients to optimise medicines. You will collaborate with otherteams, communicating effectively to ensure a safe, seamless integratedtransfer of care for patients. Main duties of the jobWorkingas part of a large multidisciplinary team, you will provide a service to ourinpatients at LTHT as well as patients attending clinics and receivinghomecare. Not only will you work within our own multidisciplinary team youwill also work alongside the wider teams such as nurses, doctors andhealthcare providers inside and outside of the trust. Oneof the main roles provided by our Pharmacy Technician Higher Levels in wardservices is the undertaking of medication histories. This will includetalking to patients and potentially relatives and careers. Therewill be opportunities to be involved with and potentially lead improvementwork to provide the best care for our patients and to grow and develop thenext generation of pharmacy professionals. Allnecessary training will be provided, and we will support you through astructured learning pathway. Aspart of your role, you will be required to work evenings, weekends and BankHolidays on a rotational basis. These posts could be based at Leeds GeneralInfirmary, St James Hospital or Chapel Allerton Hospital with cross siteworking expected on occasion. Ideally,we are looking for full time, 37.5 hours a week however we do have a flexibleapproach to the working hours. Job responsibilitiesWorkingunder guidance of SOPs, GMP, COSHH, the post holder will:- Dispenseand issue medicines to patients ensuring that all the necessary informationis available. Accuratelyundertake medication histories. Dispenseclinical trial medication and complete all required documentation followingthe defined Standard Operating Procedures. Dispensespecialist hospital-only medicines and unlicensed medicines which requireaccurate, detailed records. Dispenseoral/IV chemotherapy medicines taking necessary precautions detailed in SOPs. Dispensecontrolled drugs and ensure that all legally required records are accurateand up to date. Ensurethat all information needed for accurate stock control and prescriptionissues data is recorded. Checkdispensed items for accuracy as an accredited checker. Liaisewith Procurement staff about urgently required medicines, and informingpatients and other health care staff about supply problems / delays Recover,assess and re-cycle drugs dispensed to inpatients, ensuring that allinformation needed for accurate stock control and prescription issues data isrecorded using the appropriate paper or electronic system. Liaisewith medical staff and pharmacy ward teams to find out about new admissions,discharges and transfers, to enable prioritisation of the Pharmacy service. Answerqueries from nurses and other healthcare professional, within limit ofauthority referring where required. Promotegood communications between Pharmacy and Ward staff to ensure a safe,efficient and cost-effective medicines service. Provideadvice and information to patients on how to take their medicines effectivelyand safely. Assistin the training of Pre-registration Technicians, Technicians, PharmacySupport Workers and pre-registration Pharmacists. Participatein recruitment and selection of junior technical staff Person SpecificationSkills & behavioursCan demonstrate an understanding the Leeds Way Values.
