Job Description

An exciting opportunity for a Nurse Consultant with specialist knowledge of older person inpatient care for both organic and functional illness. Providing expert clinical leadership, education, and research to improve the care of older adults within a hospital environment. This role involves collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care, develop staff, and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives. Undertake clinical assessment, diagnosis and prescribing of medicines for people under the care of inpatient services. Main duties of the jobKey Responsibilities: Clinical Leadership: Providing expert advice and guidance to the multidisciplinary team on best practices for older adult care, including assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. Education and Development: Delivering training and mentorship to nurses and other healthcare professionals on the specific needs of older adults, including dementia care, falls prevention, and management of complex conditions. Research and Innovation: Participating in research activities to improve patient outcomes and contributing to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices. Service Development: Identifying areas for improvement in the older person's inpatient service and working with the team to implement changes that enhance the quality of care. Working closely with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, therapists, and social workers, to ensure a coordinated and patient-centered approach to care. Specific examples of tasks: Developing and implementing care plans for older adults with complex needs. Providing support and guidance to junior nurses and other healthcare professionals. Participating in ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings. Contributing to the development of policies and procedures related to older adult care. Leading or participating in quality improvement projects. Staying up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in geriatric care. Represent the Trust, and work collaboratively with CCGs and other stakeholders across the health community to share expertise and ensure patients are safely managed across the system. You will provide professional advice to the senior clinical staff in relation to older person inpatient care and act as an expert resource locally, regionally and nationally.
