Start Date:August–September 2025 Contract:Fixed-term (15 months, with potential extension) AtSchologists , we’re developingPebble— a UKRI-funded platform that blends personalised cognitive assessments, game-based interventions, and an AI therapist to help secondary students better understand and grow their minds. We’re looking for aCognitive Research Scientistto help shape and drive the scientific backbone of this work. You’ll be working directly with our founder to design high-quality tools, publish impactful research, and support ethical and school-facing operations. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to be at the intersection of cognition, education, and real-world innovation — translating research into tools that can actually change lives. What You’ll Do: Write and develop research protocols, ethics submissions (through an independent REC), and publishable academic papers. Run and interpret statistical analyses —STATA preferred , though R can be discussed. Inform the creation of innovative cognitive assessment and intervention tasks grounded in current literature. Support the psychological modelling of our AI therapist and feedback systems. Work with schools to enable smooth data collection and feedback loops. You’ll Need: A PhD (or equivalent experience) in cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, educational psychology, or a related field. Strong knowledge of domain-specific cognitive functions (e.g. attention, working memory, planning, task switching). An understanding ofnear and far transferin cognitive development and learning. Statistical confidence — particularly inSTATA— for data cleaning, standardising scores, regression, and ANOVA. A fast-paced, collaborative, and reflective research style. What Can Set You Apart: Deep familiarity withmetacognitionandcognitive remediation , especially in educational settings. Experience working withSEND learnersor diverse student populations. A strongpublication background , preferably in cognitive psychology. A passion for turning research intopractical, scalable solutions— and being part of something that actually matters. We’re primarily looking for afull-timeteam member, but we’re open topart-time arrangements(0.5 FTE or above) for more experienced applicants with relevant specialist knowledge.
