As the hub of the new NationalMouse Genetics Network, the specialist facilities and capabilitiesof the MLC support a number of distinct research clusters spreadacross the UK to accelerate our understanding of humandisease.About theRoleWe are looking for ahardworking and enthusiastic person to join our cleaning andsterilisation team. This team plays a key role in upholding thestandards of cleanliness in the Mary Lyon Centre, as well asproviding sterile equipment for the housing of genetically alteredmice, which are needed for medicalresearch.Previous experience in sterilisation isdesirable; however, full training will be given and applicants willhave the opportunity to apply for further qualifications, includingan NVQ and forklift truck licence.The overallpurpose of this role is to maintain the unit to the requiredstandards of cleanliness and to process, prepare and deliversterilised equipment and consumables, necessary for laboratoriesand animal holding areas(mice).AboutYouYou will need tohold/have:Basicliteracy andnumeracyBeable to use a computercompetently.Havesome previous experience in a cleaning role and be used to workingin a busyenvironment.Havesome experience and understanding of the importance of maintaininga cleanenvironmentExcellentattention to detailKeyResponsibilitiesYourmain duties and key responsibilitiesinclude:Maintainbiosecurity/cleanliness/hygiene in laboratory and admin areas tothe prescribedstandards.Maintainlaboratory replenishment to satisfactory levels, including bottlefilling, diet and bedding replacement, provision of sterilisedequipment.Operateautomated and semi-automated machinery such as autoclave, roboticsystems and tunnel washer, troubleshooting problems as they ariseand seeking advice whereappropriate.Monitorconsumables, ensuring that correct stock rotation and expiry datesare adheredto.Read andadhere to local Standard Operating Procedures and riskassessmentsBenefits:Choosingto come to work at the MRC (part of UK Research and Innovation(UKRI)) means that you will have access to a whole host ofbenefits, from a defined-benefit pension scheme and excellentholiday entitlement, to access to employee shopping/traveldiscounts and a salary sacrifice cycle-to-work scheme.Inaddition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the workof a world-class medical researchorganisation.The MRC values the diverseskills and experience of its employees and is committed toachieving equality of treatment for all.
