The Vascular Department provides for the admission of emergency and elective in-patients, day case surgery, diagnostic procedures and outpatient consultations. The unit hosts the Kent & Medway National AAA screening programme. There is a full endovascular service and the unit has a hybrid operating theatre (and currently the second endovascular theatre is being refurbished). The AAA endovascular programme includes a fenestrated stent graft practice. The department has a full established of ward nurses on Kent Ward, a 31 bedded ward dedicated to Vascular with additional beds for day-case surgery alongside 5 Vascular Nurse specialists working within the Vascular unit The K&C site has the centre for Kent Vascular services, interventional radiology, Urology surgery, Oncology, anaesthetics/ITU/HDU, a full 24-hour medical take, an emergency Care Centre and 24-hour operating theatre availability. Main duties of the jobThe applicant will have a broad-based training in Vascular and General Surgery. They should have GMC Registration with license to practice in hand. They must be able to integrate well within the department and help deliver vascular services to the local population. They should be able to be on -call and supply vascular advice and assistance in emergencies. The successful applicant will participate in the weekly vascular MDT meeting. There is a full 24 hours non-resident middle grade support for Vascular emergencies. There is a hospital night team on call out of hours on the Kent & Canterbury site. The Vascular Surgery F2 trainees and CT’s are members of this team. This team in addition to Vascular cover provides emergency cover provides emergency cover for Urological in-patients, emergency admission and referrals from GP’s or other hospital sites in East Kent. Vascular emergency referrals are managed according to agreed guidelines that are reviewed regularly at monthly audit and training meetings. The post holder will be required to travel across the other Hospital sites in East Kent for outpatient clinics. The post holder will have will comprise a mixture of training and service delivery made up of ward rounds, clinics and theatre sessions the facility of an all-day operating list weekly within the vascular theatre for elective/emergency operating and access to the endovascular theatre as required. Person specificationQualifications and trainingFull GMC Registration Shall have completed at least four years postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in a relevant training programme, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
