Assistant Manager – Children’s Residential CareOverviewThe Assistant Manager supports the day-to-day operations of a children’s home, working directly alongside the Deputy Manager and the Registered Manager. You’ll lead by example, support the team, and ensure all care practices meet the highest standards. This would be ideal for a Senior Support Worker/ Team Leader looking to step into their first management position.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the Deputy and Registered Manager in daily operations and staff supervision.Lead shifts, coordinate rotas, and ensure smooth running of the home.Embed high standards of care in line with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.Promote positive outcomes for children through consistent, nurturing care.Participate in care planning, reviews, and safeguarding procedures.Coach and support staff to ensure continuous improvement and reflective practice.Work with external professionals, families and placing authorities to support each young person’s development.Contribute to audits, inspections and quality assurance practices.Maintain a strong presence in the home, modelling best practice and a child-centred approach.Essential CriteriaLevel 3 Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent).Minimum 2 years’ experience in a senior role within residential childcare.Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child development and relevant legislation.Experience supervising staff and contributing to care planning.Full UK driving licence and Enhanced DBS.Desirable CriteriaLevel 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or working towards this).Experience working with children with physical and/or learning disabilities.Knowledge of the SCCIF, Children Act 1989, and positive behaviour management.Personal AttributesConfident leader with a nurturing, emotionally intelligent approach.Reflective, proactive and committed to delivering high quality care.Excellent communicator and team player.Passionate about supporting children to reach their full potential.Additional InfoOn-call duties required.Commitment to ongoing professional development.Understanding and promotion of equality, diversity, and inclusive practice.Must adhere to all safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures.Lets talk!
