Role overview We are seeking an Assistant Underwriter to support the acquisition of new business and the retention of existing accounts. This role will involve assisting the underwriting team in achieving key performance targets, including budget and loss ratio objectives. You will contribute to delivering high standards of customer service and underwriting excellence through both open market and online trading platforms. Key Accountabilities Support the underwriting team by maintaining and updating new business quotations in a timely and accurate manner. Issue renewal invitations and process mid-term adjustments in line with underwriting guidelines and service standards. Conduct initial review and validation of quote submissions to ensure completeness and compliance with underwriting criteria. Accurately process policy amendments and endorsements across a range of products. Respond to and resolve queries from clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders in a professional and efficient manner. Assist in the resolution of queries relating to accounts, premiums, and claims, liaising with relevant departments as required. Proactively identify areas for personal development and communicate training needs to your line manager. Operate within your designated underwriting authority and ensure all actions comply with regulatory and internal governance requirements. Adhere to the companys service level agreements and contribute to maintaining a high standard of operational delivery. Continuously seek opportunities to improve efficiency, support business development, and enhance overall profitability. Skills And Experience Some experience working within the insurance sector with exposure to underwriting. Strong written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely in plain English, avoiding unnecessary jargon. A customer-focused mindset, with the ability to understand and anticipate the needs of end clients and deliver service accordingly. High level of accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring consistency and precision in all aspects of work. Ability to manage workload effectively, meet tight deadlines, and remain composed under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
