TheRoleReporting to the COO, The Engineering& Asset Director will be a key member of the senior leadershipteam and will sit on DB Cargo UKs Operational Board.TheEngineering & Asset Director will be responsible for thestrategic leadership of the Asset Management and Maintenancefunction, overseeing a team of over 800 valued colleagues. The roleinvolves driving operational excellence, ensuring regulatorycompliance, and expanding commercial opportunities throughthird-party maintenance services. A strong focus on safety,innovation, and team development is essential.KeyResponsibilities Strategic Leadership: Develop andimplement long- and short-term strategies to optimise railservices, with a focus on asset reliability, utilisation, andcustomer needs.Operational and FinancialManagement: Hold accountability for the engineeringbudget, fleet planning, and investment proposals aligned withbusiness and customer demands.CommercialDevelopment: Grow third-party maintenance servicesand respond to technological advancements to enhance the valueproposition. Safety and TeamLeadership: Ensure full compliance with safetyregulations, promote a strong safety culture, and lead, mentor, anddevelop a high-performing engineering team. The PersonThis is a role wellsuited to an inspiring and commercially astute engineering leaderwith a proven track record in asset and maintenance managementwithin a high availability environment. The successfulcandidate is likely to have; Leadership Excellence: Provenleadership skills with experience in managing large, diverse teamsand creating a high performance culture. Safety and Regulatory Knowledge: Indepth understanding of rail safety standards (or similar) andregulatory frameworks, including ECM and WTD compliance. Extensive EngineeringExperience: Demonstrable background in asset andmaintenance management, ideally within the railindustry. Strategic andCommercial Acumen: Ability to develop and executebusiness strategies, drive profitability, and identify growthopportunities in 3rd party maintenanceservices. Analytical andProblem Solving Skills: Strong conceptual thinkingwith the ability to make data driven decisions and respondeffectively to market and operational challenges. Location andPackageThe base location of this role isrelatively flexible, but the successful candidate will live withincommuting distance of one of DB Cargo UKs key locations; Stoke,Toton, Crewe or Doncaster.
