Reporting to the Head of Coaching, the successful candidate will play a key role in creating a positive, child-centred environment that supports the holistic development of players within the Foundation Phase. This includes ensuring all practices reflect the club’s coaching and playing philosophy while meeting EPPP standards. The role also encompasses the integration and development of players within the Pre-Academy, providing a seamless transition into the Academy structure.ResponsibilitiesPlan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions in line with the Academy’s coaching and playing philosophy.Lead a varied games programme for players in the Foundation Phase.Ensure all players in the Foundation Phase have an Individual Learning Plan which is consistently delivered, reviewed, and adapted, with appropriate opportunities to practice on the areas highlighted.Work effectively with other departments to ensure the Academy operates in a multi-disciplinary environment.Assist with administrative tasks related to the role, including general organisation, recording of sessions, player reviews, learning objectives, and weekly reflections through the FIS.Monitor and report on the achievement of performance targets and overall progress of the Foundation Phase.Manage the transition of players between Pre-Academy and entry into the Foundation Phase (FP).Conduct performance reviews with all FP players, using a multi-disciplinary approach which meets EPPP criteria.Assist part-time coaches with their Development Action Plans and the club’s Coach Competency Framework, in conjunction with the Head of Coaching.Contribute to the scouting and recruitment process, particularly for pre-Academy age groups.Attend and contribute to meetings as directed by the Academy Manager or Head of Coaching.Adhere to SWFC policies and procedures at all times, including H&S, ICT, social media, and Code of Conduct.Implement safeguarding practices and policies, including reporting concerns via CPOMS and liaising with the Academy Safeguarding lead.Support a culture of fairness and respect in line with the Club’s EDI commitment statement.Undertake personal CPD to meet the demands of the role.About The CandidateUEFA B Licence.FA Advanced Youth Award (or working towards).Sports/management related degree (desirable).FA Safeguarding Children certification.The FA Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF).The role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.Skills and ExperienceA high level of football knowledge and understanding of creating an elite, age-appropriate environment.Thorough understanding of child learning and development.Ability to build a curriculum and deliver engaging sessions.Extensive knowledge of working within an Academy structure and EPPP regulations.Previous coaching experience in the Foundation Phase (desirable).Previous playing experience at a good level (Academy or above).Strong relationship-building skills.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Effective leadership and management skills.Proactive and adaptable attitude.Highly organized and flexible to changing environments.Enthusiastic and committed to objectives.Receptive to feedback and continuous development.IT literate, with knowledge of PMA and other football-related systems.About The Club Sheffield Wednesday Football Club (SWFC) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
