Forensic Healthcare Professional - WorcesterPHL Group is seekingForensic Healthcare Professionalsto join the team in Warwickshire custody. The custody suites are based in Worcester. This role involves working alongside police officers to assess and treat individuals detained in police custody. Are you able to determine if a detainee has a mental health condition, is uncooperative, or lacks necessary medication? Do you have experience with substance misuse or head injuries? Our Forensic Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs) are responsible for assessing and addressing the health needs of detained individuals, as well as conducting forensic medical examinations to gather evidence for use in the criminal justice system. Location:Worcester Main duties of the jobPerform clinical assessments, identify and implement appropriate interventions, and collect forensic samples. Provide advice and guidance to ensure proper care for detainees, maintaining detailed and accurate records to safeguard their health, safety, and welfare while in police custody. Job responsibilitiesProvide professional, responsive, and caring service to detained persons, supporting Custody Sergeants and Officers in assessing healthcare needs and ensuring effective care pathways. Carry out forensic sampling. Assess detainees’ fitness to be detained, released, interviewed, and understand charges. Evaluate alcohol and drug intoxication, withdrawal, and collect blood samples under the Road Traffic Act. Advise and support Custody Officers in determining healthcare needs and priorities, referring cases to the Consultant FME when necessary. Deliver forensic practitioner services according to the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and local protocols. Maintain professional standards following the NMC code, participate in training, and promote the role of nurses in custody settings. Keep accurate records of all activities, including injuries, and ensure proper logging using current systems. Contribute to service audits and continuous improvement initiatives. Stay updated on procedures and regulations. Develop positive working relationships with healthcare providers, police, and other agencies to ensure service excellence. Collaborate with team members to maintain high-quality service delivery. Support training of new team members. Make decisions responsibly, adhering to rules and procedures. Be a positive team member, engaging in supportive and light-hearted interactions to foster a collaborative environment. Person SpecificationQualificationsRegistered Nurse or Paramedic with at least 3 years of service. Residency in the UK for at least 3 years. Full UK driving license. Full membership of the NMC/HCPC.
