Our Speech and Language Therapy Team situated in the London Borough of Redbridge and in partnership with the Youth and Justice Service in Redbridge, have an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join us on a part-time basis. This is a fixed term position extending until February 2027, to work in our Youth Justice Team. We are a well-established service serving a diverse London community. This post will ideally suit an established Band 7 looking for a new challenge or a developing speech and language therapist ready to progress in their career, working as a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist with Children and Young People (CYP) in the Youth Justice Service (YJS) Please see our team photograph at a recent team building meeting, indicating how much we enjoy working together. Working with the young person to understand how their speech and language difficulties may (or may not) contribute towards their offending behaviour Working with the Youth Justice Service to improve clients' communication skills and working with families, and reviewing their care plans and other documentation to ensure it is in line with service user needs. Providing communication skills and awareness training for those working in the justice system and police who may come into contact with vulnerable children with additional needs. Involvement at the pre-sentence stage to provide information to the court on the needs of the young person which will need to be considered and contribute to pre-sentencing reports. Providing intermediaries to support individuals to understand and engage with the legal process and to provide their best evidence in court. Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex. Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). High-Cost Area Supplement This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of 4,551 and a maximum payment of 5,735) pro rata for part time staff. Please check your eligibility under the UKVI points based system The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Redbridge operates within a multi-disciplinary team for children with additional needs and disabilities. We offer: A programme of induction A team of friendly, supportive colleagues within the YOT and SLT service A well developed and supportive MDT, including joint working with a CAMHS worker An accessible base close to an underground (Central Line) and mainline station (Elizabeth Line) Opportunities for frequent contact with other speech and language therapists within NELFT. A well-developed support, supervision and appraisal structure. Extensive opportunities for continuing professional development (attending specialist courses) Well developed agile working facilities Opportunities to work both face-to-face and remotely via teletherapy. Undertaking screening, assessments and onward referral to other specialists in integrated services as early as possible to identify those CYP in the criminal justice system with speech, language and communication needs. This should be linked to the possibility of additional risk factors including: previous contact with police, disengagement from education, low academic attainment and those with special educational and social needs. Writing advice fpor Educational Health Care Plans as required Candidates will need to demonstrate the following requirements: A recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent and relevant professional registration Specialist clinical skills in terms of assessment and therapy for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs in the youth justice service Some experience of working with young people at a secondary school level Outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as an effective multi-disciplinary team member. Experience in supervising other team members and students Ability to gather data to support outcome measure Use of AI Applications for this role should be written by the applicant.
