An opportunity has arisen on Bear Ward for a full-time 1 year fixed-term/secondment for a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse Bear Ward is a busy and dynamic cardiology day care ward caring for infants and children with various cardiothoracic anomalies, including congenital heart disease, heart failure, heart and lung transplant continuing care, pulmonary hypertension assessments, tracheal and respiratory conditions In addition to our in-patients we manage pre-admissions and post discharge follow-up. Children and their families attend the ward for pre-operative investigations and preparation for future cardiac surgery and their subsequent healthcare journey. This involves preparing them emotionally and physically for their surgery and their intensive care stay On average we expect to admit and care for 12-18 patients a day and carry out nurse-led discharge for day cases. We work hard to ensure that discharges are planned from the moment of pre-admission Main duties of the job Excellent communication skills are required in order to work with Bear ward, CICU, Echo, ECG, Cardiologists, Surgeons, reception staff and the Cardiology Booking office to ensure smooth patient journeys We also work closely with Cath Lab which operates 5 days a week, performing over 800 interventional and diagnostic procedures a year.
