Job Description:Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer - Autonomous and Undersea Systems Saab Inc., Autonomous and Undersea Systems division is seeking an innovative and experiencedSenior Staff Mechanical Engineerto implement product design requirements for autonomous Unmanned Surface/Underwater Vehicles (aUSVs/aUUVs, AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This position will sit in our Quincy, MA facility. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Provide direction for mechanical systems and present technical concepts regarding product design and performance. Interface with Systems, Electrical, Quality and Safety/Human Factors as well as other business functions to develop/define/implement customer requirements. Provide leadership for the research and development of new mechanical components and electromechanical assemblies. Provide leadership and execute functional analysis, evaluation, and optimization of product designs. Understand customer needs for business development and program execution. Develop work package labor estimates and status reports. Mentor and support engineering staff development. Present technical results and content to customers, tailored to the audience. Provide technical leadership to key subcontractors and suppliers. Maintain size, weight, and power budgets through development phases. Provide technical leadership in manufacturing-related matters. Perform and oversee design verification efforts. Lead cost/benefit trade-off analysis and feasibility studies. Lead mechanical failure analysis of hardware. Provide planning and organizational skills for team tasks and projects. Ensure adherence to quality systems and processes. Manage system-level design considerations and trade-offs across disciplines. Provide technical vision to improve company processes, tools, and methodologies. Contribute to business objectives through technology planning. Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's preferred. Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical design. Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCad, Creo, Ansys, ICEPAK, Mechanica, etc. Product development background with underwater vehicles. Leadership in mechanical design, problem-solving, and team management. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office. Experience with Earned Value Management and Cost Account Management. Ability to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET clearance. Ability to travel up to 25%, domestic and international. Desired Skills:Prior DoD experience. Experience with electronics packaging, environmental testing, and materials. Knowledge of GD&T (ANSI Y14.5). Additional Information:This role is based in Quincy, MA. Compensation ranges from $135,500 to $176,200, depending on experience and qualifications.
