We are recruiting to two permanent Head of Service posts to work alongside the Strategic Lead for Family Help in the Referral and Assessment Service. The Head of Service for Family Help (assessment) will provide operational leadership to the Assessment Teams, to ensure quality assessments are progressed in a timely manner and that we continue to provide a good service to our children and families in Bolton. Our Assessment Service is part of Bolton Council’s Front Door and takes referrals and assessments from the Integrated Front Door. The assessments are regarding children who are at risk of significant harm and in need of support to ensure their welfare and protection. The teams are responsible for Section 47 enquiries, social care assessments, Initial Child Protection Conferences, issuing Care Proceedings and initiating the Public Law Outline. As a Head of Service, you will lead the operational management, supervision, support and guidance of a team of managers. The Head of Service will ensure that the services offered to children are of the highest quality, ensuring effective safeguarding of children and adhering to statutory and legislative requirements. You will be expected to ensure the excellent standards of work are steered through supervision, quality assurance, performance management and audit. Alongside the Head of Service (triage) and Strategic Lead, you will work together to drive forward the vision of improving services to ensure the most vulnerable children in Bolton are safe and their outcomes improved. You must have a minimum of 3 years management experience in Children’s social care including experience of managing social care teams and child protection activity. We are looking for candidates who are motivated, ambitious, creative and committed to safeguarding children. You will need to be resilient and solution focused, with an ethos of effective team working and partnership working in a challenging environment. You will have a positive outlook, be ambitious, creative but most of all caring. You will be able to show transferrable skills that enable you to be an effective Head of Service in the challenging but rewarding area of Children’s Social Care.
