Job Description

Museums Worcestershire is the joint museums service of Worcester City and Worcestershire County Councils. We are looking for casual staff to support our busy retail and reception teams at the Art Gallery & Museum and The Commandery in Worcester. You will play an important part in welcoming people to the museums and helping to make their experience an enjoyable one.You will look after the museum shops, where you will maximise income from sales of retail stock, admission tickets and other chargeable activities, to support the work of the museums. We are looking for people with a track-record of providing an excellent customer welcome in a public-facing role. You will be an enthusiastic salesperson who is confident talking to visitors.Your retail experience may include sourcing stock, visual merchandising and stock control as well as operating electronic tills, cash handling and cashing up procedures.You will have the initiative to respond to problems, always looking to provide a positive experience for the visitor. Please note, this is a casual post and therefore hours are not guaranteed.You may be called upon to cover for staff holidays and sickness, as well as to work in the museum shop during events and evening functions. Key Requirements: Flexibility to work at short notice, on weekdays, at weekends and evening events Strong background in delivering excellent customer service Be able to work well as part of a team An enthusiastic approach and a desire to learn and share knowledge Skills & Experience: Experience of working in a similar retail environment Experience of operating electronic tills, cash handling and cashing up procedures Excellent communication skills The physical ability to move and carry deliveries and shop stock Able to work on own initiative if/when required Experience of working in a museum, heritage or tourism environment is desirable We welcome applications from all sections of the community.
