Portsmouth Football Club is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to join its senior leadership team at a truly exciting moment in the club’s journey. Following promotion to the EFL Championship in 2023–24 and continued investment by Tornante Group, this is a rare opportunity to help shape the financial direction of one of English football’s most iconic clubs. The impact you’ll make: As Chief Financial Officer, you’ll work closely with the Chief Executive to lead and manage the finance function across Portsmouth Football Club, Portsmouth Women, and the Pompey Health and Fitness Club. You’ll oversee financial planning and reporting, ensure cashflow stability, and support strategic decision-making with dynamic commercial insight. You’ll drive robust governance, ensure compliance with all relevant football and financial regulations, and act as a key advisor to the Board. From detailed squad cost modelling to the financial evaluation of major new projects, your insights will help the club make smart, sustainable decisions. This is a leadership role with real breadth and influence, one that calls for a strategic thinker who can work across departments, mentor teams, and communicate complex information clearly and with purpose. Your skills and experience: You’re a qualified Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) with significant post-qualification industry experience and have worked in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within football or sport. You combine technical excellence with a commercial mindset and a clear communication style. You understand the pressures of working in a high-performance environment and are adept at making sound decisions under pressure. Your attention to detail is matched by your ability to see the bigger picture. Importantly, you lead with integrity and inspire those around you.
