We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. This position has arisen due to the need to expand our paediatric ophthalmology service and support our adult motility service following a retirement. The paediatric service is run by two consultants, a Specialist doctor, a fellow, resident doctors, and is supported by a well-integrated orthoptic department. The department and theatres are well-equipped and located on the same site as the Great North Children’s Hospital, with which there are close links. In addition to the challenges of the role, there are opportunities for teaching, education, research, and audit. Candidates must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the appointment date. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing an effective and comprehensive paediatric ophthalmology service and adult motility service as part of the paediatric ophthalmology team. They will be expected to participate in teaching resident doctors and orthoptists, as well as undertake administrative roles within the specialty. The role will be governed by the terms and conditions of the national Consultant contract.
